此文档收集于网络,如有侵权,请联系网站删除AVAYA Cajun P882 vs. Cisco Catalyst 6500, 6000and Nortel Passport8600Highlight The Cajun P882 Multiservice Backbone Switch is the absolute industry leader for end-to-end solutions, offeringtrue QoS capabilities for data, voice and video. The Cajun P882 is a DayOne Ready Ethernet Switch for applications from the wiring closet to the backbone. It outperforms the competition in performance, capacity, the convergence capability and price.Key Selling PointsHigh Performance, Highly Scalable Routing SwitchThe Cajun P882 has the scalability, density, performance and reliability to enable the building of massive networks. The following are just few major advantages of the Cajun P882 over the Catalyst and Passport switches: P882 is Space Saver provides twice as many payload slots with same chassis size. P882 offers the highest industry available Gig and 10/100 port capacity with up to 128 Gig ports, vs 114 and 64 of Cat. 6509 and Passport, and up to 768 10/100 RJ21 vs 384 with the Cat. 6009. P882 has 4.5 times higher backplane capacity than Cat. 6009, 7 times the Throughput; and 10% higher performance than the Passport 8600.Feature Rich Networking Platform at Lower Price Point P882 provides overall lower pricing than the competition (see the Matrix). P882 provides superior interoperability with OpenTrunk technology, LAG and CLI methods.Industry Leading Quality of ServiceCajunRules Policy Manager offers a simple and very smart policy enforcement software to benefit both an Enterprise and Service Provider user.CajunRules is supported with every Cajun product: P882, P550, P330, and it is the only industry available Policy software deployed over an end-to-end wide network. Cisco QPM does not support the wiring-closet; Nortels Optivity provides a partial solution (with BPS only).Monitoring End-to-End NetworkOnly Cajun switches offer traffic monitoring ASIC counters to support the IETF Standard, SMON, and enhanced Anylayer SMON for monitoring of L3-4 protocol loads and erroneous rates over the entire network. The P882 is the first Policy Switch to support PMON Policy Monitoring, the IEEEbased solution to truly enforce and control an effective Policy that has been set-up on the network. Voice-Data Convergence ReadyWith over 33% of the market share, AVAYA has long been the U.S. Number 1 position in Intelligenet Voice Systems, Messaging and Call Centers - holding the largest number of installed-base business users. The Cajun P882 comprises one of our Voice and Video platforms, and it is now part of the new-breed IP Telephony that we offer our existing and new customers. Catalyst 6500 Does not Compete in the Enterprise The Cat 6500 has been declared by Cisco as non-designated for Enterprise deployments but for Service Providers, only. The following facts confirm this positioning: Ciscos clear statement at Users Meeting, Oct. 2000 (“very expensive, no added value for an Enterprise”). Improved redundancy features over the Cat 6000 (support for redundant SW. fabrics, not av. with 6000). 10G port to be available on 6500 only, while 10/100-fabric enabled ports will not be provided. Cat. 6500 with a crossbar is only supported in a new Supervisor IOS and not in the Catalyst software. Current Analysis assessment, Dec/00 “Catalyst 6500 is outrageously expensive for the Enterprise”. - In fact, Cat 6500 prices are twice as high as Cat 6000. The conclusion is that the P882 should be compared against the Cisco Cat 6000 and not the 6500. However, for information values, the Cat 6500 is covered with this analysis.Catalyst 6000 Major Weaknesses Cat 6000 does not support redundant Switch Fabrics, and so a fully redundant configuration is not available. Cat 6000 does not support the 802.1Q/p industry standards for QoS/CoS (uses proprietary solution) Cat 6000 has over four times lower L2/L3 performance than P882 (32 Gbps vs 139 Gbps) Not scalable Switching Engine: the Cat 6000 uses a central routing module, which performance cannot scale with the addition of modules. The P882 performs L3 switching with parallel processing. Every module has a routing ASIC, so we scale per module. Cat 6000 sacrifices expensive switching slots for feature cards Monitoring, Security etc.) These features are supported on P882 internally with embedded ASICs, and do not occupy switching slots. Half the number 10/100 TELCO ports: 336 for Cat 6000 vs 768 for P882 High 10/100 port price at average 30% higher than the P882Catalyst 6500 Major Weaknesses Cat 6500 requires crossbar-enabled cards. Using the Cat. 6000 cards with 6500 chassis is just wasting of money for the user; the switch will perform like the Catalyst 6000 with a central 16 Gbps switching engine (15 Mpps forwarding rate). Cat 6500 requires 4 slots for full redundancy: 2 for SFM (Sw. Fabric Mdl) + 2 for SPV Engine cards. This leaves only 5 slots for switching. Moreover, any 6500 feature card (that is slot-based, like a security card or network -monitoring card, a bit reminding our SMON) will make this situation worse. The P882 provides both the primary and redundant sw. fabrics internally, and offers 15 (x 3!) i/o slots with a fully redundant configuration. High price more than double the P882 price. Only one i/o model (16-Gig GBIC ports) cross-fabric is available now; no 10/100Base-T or ATM crossbar-enabled cards. Passport 8600 Major Weaknesses Overall low scalability, with half the max port densities (ex. 64 Gig, 192 Fx vs 128 Gig, 384 Fx for P882) Shared, not scalable architecture Lower Switching Bandwidth and Throughput Does not provide Load Balancing capability Higher at 50% Gig Layer 3 price with both Standard and Redundant configurations.
