Understand and use the expressions of making phone calls accurately.Teaching aids: Multimedia devices, phone models, newspapers, a pair of earphones, name tagsTeaching procedures:Step 1 Warming up1. Show a picture of a mans watching TV on the screen.T: What can you see in this picture?Ss: A man and a TV.T: What is he doing?Ss: He is watching TV.(Bb writing) Today we will start Unit 6, “Im watching TV.”T: Do you like watching TV? Yes? Then lets watch TV together.2. Play short video clips of students activities, ask students to answer what she/he/they is/are doing.What is she doing? She is playing the zither.What is he doing? He is playing soccer.What are they doing? They are running.3. Ask students to add playing soccer and running in activity 1a (the list).Step 2 Introducing the Theme1. Show the three groups of sentences on the screen again. Highlight the important part. Then have students observe and summarize the structure of the present continuous tense. (Bb writing)2. Explain the basic structure of present continuous with cartoon fish.Step 3 BookworkWork on 1a.1. Show nine pictures and verb phrases on the screen. Then have students match the activities with the pictures individually. (Ask students to answer in complete sentences)2. Show the verb phrases and lead students to read them for three times.3. Have students observe the -ing form of the verbs, then summarize the three rules of changing verbs into -ing form. (Bb writing)Work on 1b.1. T: My friends live in this building. They are Jenny, John, Dave and Mary. I want you to find out what they are doing. Pay attention to the -ing form. Now lets listen.Play the recording, then have three students answer the questions individually.What is Jenny doing? She is watching TV.What is John doing? He is washing the dishes.What are Dave and Mary doing? They are listening to a CD.2. Show the tape script on the screen. Ask students to read the conversation (boys-Bob; girls-Jenny)3. Ask five students to role-play the conversation.Game: Memory ChallengeHave some students do certain movements repeatedly for two minutes. And ask other students to memorize as many movements as they can. They can take notes to help them to memorize.Work on 2b1. Ask students questions to lead in the topic of making phone calls. Then play a short video to help students to recall the common expressions. (Bb writing)T: Now we know that people are doing different things at home. You are at your home and your friend is at his or her home. Here I have a question. What can you do if you want to know what he or she is doing?T: Call her or call him. Yes. So here comes the question. How do you make a phone call? What can you say when you make a phone call?2. Play the recording of the phone call. Show the conversations on the screen. Ask students to find out what Steve and Jack are doing, and fill in the blanks. Then check the answer together.T: Then lets listen. When you listen, try to ind out what Steve and Jack are doing, and fill in the blanks of this paragraph.3. Pair work: People work in pairs to practice the conversation.Work on 2dT: So that is a conversation between boys and then we will listen to a conversation between girls and try to find out what they are doing.1. Listen and fill in the blanks (Conversation 2).Play the recording of the phone call. Ask students to fill in the blanks while listening and check the answer with their partner.2. Ask students to find out the common expressions in the conversation and tell the meaning.3. Invite two students to role-play the conversation to the whole class.Step 4 Conversation presentationAsk the students to make a phone conversation with their partners before class. Give them two minutes to prepare in class, then ask some pairs to present their phone conversations to the whole class.Step 5 HomeworkMaking a conversationYou have a friend Mary.
