Teaching proceduresStep1. Warming-up and revision 1. Greeting the Ss, and askWe have many new teachers this term, can you tell me who they are.What does he /she look like?2. When they describe their new teachers, collect some adjectives on the blackboard. Then ask them to review their comparativestall- taller long - longer heavy- heavier big biggerpopular- more popular3. Review these words and the comparatives with (i)er and moreStep2. PresentationShow them some pictures and ask students to describe themT: -Who is he?S: -He is Liu Xiang T: -What does he /she look like?S: -He is tall T:-And who is this man ?S: -He is Pan ChangjiangT: -What does he look like?S: -He is a little short.T: - So, we can say : Liu Xiang is taller than Pan Changjiang or Changjiang is shorter than Liu Xiang At the same time, the teacher write down the words they used on the blackboard: tall, short , taller, shorterPrepare more pictures to ask them in order that they can use more words to describe people : smart(er) long(er) , heavy, heavier, lazy ,lazier, (more)outgoing , (more) serious .In this part, students are expected to review the words and know the basic structure by reading the sentences again and again. Write down the structure on the blackboard: A+ v/be + comparative +than + BShow them other pictures about their classmates and help them to use the structure to make up sentences : -is more serious / smarter than -Step3. Pair workT: Now please compare you and your classmate by using the sentence: I am .than you.Before this, ask one student to do the pair work with the teacher T: I am taller than youS: I am smarter than you T: I am more serious than youS: I am thinner than youThis is very funny, and can make students be relaxed in classGive them 3minutes to prepare Then, ask several students to make the conversation(in this part, teacher should pay attention to their usage , if they make mistakes, correct it at once.)Step4.
