Teaching PlanSection 1 . Teaching Content There are six units in Book 7. This is lesson Five, Unit 3 What are you going to do? This lesson has three parts: lets try, lets talk and pair work. I arrange three steps in my teaching plan: step 1, students will study the future tense in an Avatar story; step 2, students will practice the sentence patterns in future circumstances: where are you going? What are you going to do? When are you going? Step 3, the students will make a survey and write a composition.Section 2. Teaching aims1. Things the students will learnFirst, students will learn to use the questions start with what, where, when in future tense, and the answers.Second, to enable students to make a survey of others activities in the future.2. Targets for abilities and emotionsFirst, to foster students communicative abilities in talking about the future. Second, to foster students awareness of good co-operation and proper competition in this lesson.Section 3. Key-points and main challenges of this lessonTo help the students using future tense questions to communicate a future plan is the key point and main challenge.Section 4. Teaching methodsIn this lesson, I am going to construct a future circumstance in the classroom, by telling the students that we are all in the year 2050, thanks to Avatars help. This will help the activities of this lesson to go smoothly, and to be more exciting. Chanting, word games, listening and competition will be arranged in this lesson, too. A task-based teaching method is used here to develop students communicative abilities.Section 5. Teaching procedures and the purposes of my design There are 4 steps in my teaching procedures.Step 1 Warm up and Preview1. Greetings and Introduction. First, I will say hello to the students and introduce Avatar to the students. Avatar is a smart man from Xinjiang. Then I will tell the students Avatar has invited us to the year 2050 with him. (Purpose: Create a fictitious surrounding for students to feel it is fun. This makes students learning easier.)2. Lets chant. I will show a picture of Avatars house, he is chanting. Then, I will let students chant with him.Im going to buy a book. Im going to take a look.Im going to bake a cake. Im going to walk near a lake.We are going to take a trip. We are going to take a sip.Im going outside to play. Im going to have a good day.(Purpose: Chanting can help us review acquired knowledge for the next step.)Step 2 Presentation 1. Connecting competition.I will Show some future scenes on POWERPOINT, and tell the students we are in the year 2050. Then I will show a future street. There is a bookstore, a fruit stand, a pet shop and a shoe store on it. I will introduce the new words like this:“Now, we are in the year 2050. Look at this wonderful world. It is amazing. But look, Avatar is sick because of the time travelling. Can you help him buy something? He wants to buy a comic book, some grapes, a pair of shoes and a cat. Where shall we go? Lets find out the pictures and connect it to the right answers.”Then, I let students connect the commodities and the shops like this:Commodities shopsA comic bookbookstore Some grapesFruit standsA pair of shoes shoe storeA catPet shop In this part, I start arranging competition among student groups.(Purpose: I set the situation of time traveling. That makes students feel it is fun. They can imagine that this class is just like a movie and they are learning English in a fun way.)2. Lets try. Here, I will tell students Sarah wants to help Avatar, too. Let the students listen to the dialogue of lets try and choose the right picture. I will write down the information in an interview form like this:NameWhere is he/she going?What is he/she going to do?When is he/she going?SarahbookstoreBuy a dictionaryAfter school(Purpose here, is to foster students listening ability.)3. Listen to the dialogue of lets talk for the first time.In this part, I will tell students Chen Jie wants to help Avatar, too. Then, listen to Chen Jie and Amys conversation and find out what Chen Jie wants to do to help. Choose the right answers on the POWERPOINT.(purpose: From Sarahs help to Chen Jies help, students can feel the friendship between people. This can foster students moral values.)4. Listen and repeat lets talk. Students listen and repeat the dialogue sentence by sentence.(Purpose: In this part I am going to strengthen students listening and reading. They can get the sentences easily and speak them out loud. So they will be happy and confidence.)5. Listen to the dialogue for the third time and fill in the blanks.Show the four skilled sentences on the blackboard, missing some key words like this. Then listen to the dialogue again and ask the students fill in the missing words.Where are you going ?Im going to the bookstore . What are you going to buy?I am going to buy a comic book. When are you going?I am going at 3 oclock .(Purpose: Let the students focus on the main language point and master the sentence patterns easily and clearly.)6. Read and recite the dialogue.(1) Students open their books and follow the teacher to read the text.(2) Students read the text together loudly.(3) Ask the students to recite the dialogue in one minute.(purpose: let students focus on the text book and try to consolidate the sentence patterns.)7. Pair work. Ask some students what he/she is going to help Avatar. I will write down a different suggestion from Sarah and Chen Jie in the interview form. For example:NameWhere is he/she going?What is he/she going to do?When is he/she going?SarahbookstoreBuy a dictionaryAfter schoolstudentFruit stand Buy some applesIn the eveningThen let students ask their partners. At last, let some pairs show their conversation to the class. (Purpose: In this part, students need to tell others how he/she could help Avatar. The students can feel that these new expressions are useful.)Step 3 Consolidation 1. Interview game. I will set a situational background for the game. It goes as follows:“Boys and girls, you have done a good job. Now, Avatar is going to interview the president of the world. He has ten passports to the palace. Who wants to go with him? All right, let us play a game to choose the best interviewer. The one who finishes the interview task first is the winner. Note that you cannot write down the same answers here. You have to ask more classmates to get the different answers.”There is an information card on the back of the interview form. Most of the information is the same but only a quarter of them are different. The students have to ask more people to win and they play their luck instead of skill. That is good for most of the students especially the lower ones. This is the interview form:Where are you going? What are you going to do?When are you going?123That is the information card on the back:I am going to the fruit stand.I am going to buy some apples.I am going in the afternoon.(Purpose: In this part, students are seeking proper answers by asking questions. They felt excited when they got the answers. The English learning is deeply embedded in the interview game.)2. Write a composition. Show Avatars one day plan and ask students write their own one day plan in 2050. I will give each student a paper of composition like this. If time permits, I will show students plans in the class, and vote for the favourite plan.This is Avatars plan: That is a composition paper:My planMy name is . I am in 2050 now.I am going to in the morning.I am going to in the afternoon.In the evening, I am going to .That will be fun.Effendis planMy name is Effendi. I am in 2050 now. I am going to interview the president of the world in the morning. I am going to fly a plane to travel around the world in the afternoon. In the evening, I am going to the moon by spaceship and sleep there.That will be an exciting day.(Purpose: in this part, students can write things what they really want to do in the future. That is the main thing of this lesson. I think they will really enjoy it.)Step 4 Homework1. Copy the dialogue.2.Make a survey about your parents future plan and write down as a composition. The title is My Parents One Day Plan in 2050.(Purpose: writing something about the future at home is to continue students adventure beyond the classroom.
