These differences are precipitations of history in the development of society and they are a kind of permanent cultural phenomenon. The purpose of this paper is to introduce and analyze some major cultural differences between China and west and the reasons for these differences. Help people get a better understanding of cultural differences between China and west, which can eliminate some obstacles in cross-cultural communication and obtain a better communication effect.With the continuous development of Chinas reform and opening-up, economic integration, information globalization and the gradual realization of Global Village, the exchanges and cooperation between China and western countries are more and more frequent. Learning the cultural differences between China and west and improving cultural adaptability have extreme significance. It helps us to realize a qualitative leap from perceptual to rational and improve sensitivity and distinguish capability, cultivate good ability to cross-cultural communication, which made our cross-cultural communication more effective and smooth. Whats more, it can promote economic and cultural exchanges, and meanwhile we can study and absorb the essence of western culture to promote the development of society and the global culture.When the world entered the 21st century, a huge number of international companies have gone to China in order to get more market share. The market globalization has brought the enterprises under multinational background much more chance and profit, but also brought them much more fierce competition .To face the fierce competition, the winners will be the companies who know China and Chinese culture. Human Resource Management under the background of cross-culture becomes a “must” for international companies in this phenomenon. This paper explores culture differences between china and west so as to find the link between these two cultures and help us to have a better understanding of them.Research QuestionQuestion 1:what are the cultural differences between China and west? Literature ReviewDue to the growth of the globalization as well as the mobility it brings, many cultural differences are emerging and converging in cross-cultural communication. Over the decades, many scholars and researchers have done a lot of studies in this field. A Chinese scholar Xuhangyan wrote a book Comparisons of Chinese and Western Culture. In his book, he said: “Chinese and western civilization exist differences in philosophy, cultural spirit, thinking mode, rhetoric, religious beliefs, social norms, literature and art,ect. Therefore, cultural difference and conflict is an inevitable topic. If we treat cultural diversity as natural color of globalization and regard contacts and dialogues between different civilizations as collision melody, a new picture of colorful global civilization will unfold before our eyes.” An American political scientist Samuel P.Huntington wrote a book The Clash of Civilizations. He writes: “It is my hypothesis that the fundamental source of conflict in this new world will not be primarily ideological or primarily economic. The great divisions among humankind and the dominating source of conflict will be cultural. Nation states will remain the most powerful actors in world affairs, but the principal conflicts of global politics will occur between nations and groups of different civilizations. The clash of civilizations will dominate global politics.
