2015级第二学期口语活动安排Theme One: Description of PeopleTask 1: You are to make a dialogue about Description of People for 3-5 minutes. Your dialogue includes your description about the appearance, dressing, personality and some impressive or important things of the person you are going to describe. Task 2: The teacher will ask you some questions about people, and you are to answer them properly. The questions will be from the Oral English Practice Topics / Questions provided. I. Learn to describe the appearance of people:1. hair: He / she has long (short, thick, thin )/ (curved, wavy, straight) hair. /(blond, dark, brown, gray, red )hair. He is bald-headed/ has a large bald patch. He has his hair done in a sports style (crew cut style). He parts his hair in the middle. He parts his hair on the left side. He has his hair stand up. He combs his hair backwards. He has his hair oiled and looks smooth and bright. She braided her hair in long pig tails. Her hair hangs loose to her shoulder. She tied her hair back in a pony tail. She has her hair done in bang style. 2. eyes: He / she has big( small, narrow, beady, dark, blue, brown ) eyes. She has single/ double fold eye lids. His/ her eyebrows are bushy / thin ( like a sharp sword/ a crescent). In his her eyes you can see love/ mercy/ wisdom/ cruelty/ indifference. 3. nose: His nose is high and straight. He has got a flat nose /hawk-nose, bottle nose. 4. mouth: His mouth is big, like a lions mouth, She has got a small a cherry like mouth. He / she has thick/ thin lips, and his upper lip is too short. Her lips are reddened. He / she has square (pointed) jaw. 5. face: He has a high (narrow) forehead, a round (oval) face, rosy cheeks. He has a fair (dark) complexion. She has heavy (light) makeup. 6. stature /shape: He/ She is big ( small, thin, skinny, strong, well-built, fat, heavy, plump.) He is of average height, or above/ below average height. He has straight (hunched ) back. She is in good (curved, beautiful, bad) shape, like a ballet dancer. She has spindle, (healthy and sexy , hairy) legs. II. Learn to describe clothes and dressing: He likes wearing a suit, a pair of trousers, jeans, shorts, pants (fem), a skirt, jacket, a coat, a waistcoat, sweater(毛绒运动衣),a shirt, T-shirt. He is always dressed in blue, red, white. She likes wearing a pair of earrings, a necklace. III. Learn to describe the personality of people:Example1: I am rather a tomboy but not violent, I hate fighting and argument and have never had any trouble with people. I hate being laughed at and teasing hurts me a lot, I tend to be sulk when I am annoyed, I tend to be a bit oversensitive. Example 2: I am quite creative with my hands. I like making models and some small home devices. I like acting and music, I will play violin whenever I am free. Describe the star you admire and why do you admire him/her? Theme Two: about Love and Marriage Task 1: 3-4 students form a group. Work in groups and make a dialogue about Love and Marriage for 4-5 minutes. Your dialogue includes your ideas about love and marriage or your love experience (if you have), or your lover in your dream or some other things related to love and marriage. Task 2: The teacher will ask you some questions about Love and Marriage, you are to answer them properly. The questions will be: Oral English Practice Topics / Questions Theme 2: Love and Marriage1. What is the basis of the love between a man and a woman? What other elements are involved?2. What are the standards in choosing your boy/girl friend? Can you describe them in detail? 3. Do you think people should marry someone with similar social and economical status? What is your idea about this tradition?4. In the future do you wish to choose your own future wife (husband) or prefer that someone introduce your future wife (husband) to you, or go to some marriage brokers?5. If one loves a person, do you think he or she should express his or her love first?6. If a man and his girlfriend are eating in a restaurant, who do you think should pay the bill? And why? 7. If you are in love, can that influence your study? If yes, are you going to stop?8. After graduation, can the students in love continue their love if they are assigned to different places to work? And why and why not?9. Can you describe the traditional ways in celebrating wedding ceremony? How do you plan your future wedding ceremony?10. As the world is becoming smaller some people like to marry some foreigners, how about you? What do you think about this? 11. Do you think love is everlasting? And why and why not? 12. Why do you think that there are more and more divorces now? And do you think divorces represent social progress or moral retrogress? Theme Three Traveling and transportation Task 1: 3-4 students form a group. Work in groups and make a dialogue about Traveling for 4-5 minutes. Your dialogue includes your description about the plan, date, destination, ways of transportation, priceinteresting things about your travelling. Task 2: The teacher will ask you some questions about travelling. You are to answer them properly. The questions will be from the Oral English Practice Topics / Questions provided. Which place/city is the one you wish to visit the most in China? 2. If you were a millionaire how would you travel all over the world? Can you tell us your routes traveling around the world? 3. Do you think subway can help to solve the traffic problem in Guangzhou? Theme Four: about Jobs and Work (interview) Task 1: 3-4 students form a group. Work in groups. You are at a job interview. Some of you are the interviewee, one of you will be the interviewer, make a dialogue of the job interview, Your dialogue should include greeting, introduction, qualifications, experiences, education, abilities, the background of the company, personal interest, wages, position applied, ways of contact, ending. and other things about job interview. Task 2: The teacher will ask you some questions about jobs/work, you are to answer them properly. The questions will be from the Reference Questions for Theme FiveOral English Practice Topics / Questions about Jobs and Work 1. What is your ideal profession, how do you strive for that? 2. What are the factors that influence your choice of a career? 4. What are the most important to you when you hunt your job? 5. Do you think it is easy to find a good job in the present job market? 6. How do people in our country find jobs? How do you think you can find your job after you graduate from the university? Tell me the ways. 7. Where do you wish to work after your graduation from the university and why?8. If you can not find a good job when you graduate, what are you going to do?9. Do you wish to be a professor in the university or a manager in a big company?10. Is it fair for people to be paid differently in different professions? 11. Do you know a person who is successful in his profession? If you do, tell his story of success to your partner. 12. Do you think your studies in the university can help you succeed in the future? Which courses are most useful and which courses are not so helpful? 13. Have you had any work experience? Give a detailed account of your experience to your partner. What have you learned from your experience? 14. Do women in our country have equal opportunities for work? And why and why not? 15. What is your ambition? And do you any workable plan for that?16. Do you like working in China or in some foreign countries? Theme Five about going abroad Task 1: Suppose you plan to study abroad, you and your partner are discussing this matter. Make a conversation about going abroad. Your dialogue should include the purpose, the plan, preparation and difficulties of studying abroad. Task 2: The teacher will ask you some questions about going abroad, you are to answer them properly. The questions will be from the Oral English Practice Topics / Questions provided. Oral English Practice Topics / Questions for theme five: 1. Have you ever thought about going abroad? What is the purpose of your going abroad? 2. Do you think studying abroad is a key to a successful career?3. What are the difficulties for one to study abroad? How are these difficulties to be overcome?4. What kind of preparation are you going to make if you want to study in America?5. Are you going to return to the motherland if you are studying abroad? Why? What do you think of those who have stayed overseas beyond their time limit?6. Do you think the Chinese government should encourage more people to study abroad?7. Is it a gain/loss for China when many Chinese settle down in foreign countries? Please make your comments on it.8. How many ways do you know to go abroad? 9. Do you wish to see some African countries? Is there anything unusual there? 10. What do you plan to do if you go to the United States? Why?11. Do you like to work in some developing countries, like India, Brazil or Russia? Which country would you choose if you had an opportunity to study or work overseas? Why do you choose that country?12. Where do you want to go if you can offer to pay all the expenses for a months holiday abroad? Why?13. Do you have any family members or close relatives abroad? If yes, are you going to immigrate to some foreign countries?Theme Six: about Holidays Task 1: You are to make a dialogue about your plan of your summer/winter holidays for 4-5 minutes. Your dialogue should include the places you will go, and the things you will do, the time arrangement, the financial arrangement, and other things arranged for the holidays.
