My distinguished judges and teachers,Good morning! My name is Shi Tu from No.1 Primary School of Hunnan New District. Today its my pleasure to talk about my teaching design for The Oxford English book 5B, Module 1 Unit 4 Use your five senses! Firstly, I analyze this lesson. 1) There are four units in Module 1, which all talks about “Using my five senses”, in the last three units, we have finished “use your ears, eyes, and hands” parts, today we will go on to learn unit 4 “use your five senses”, it is the conclusion unit of the whole module. 2) In unit 4, there are several parts, what we will learn today is “Look and learn” and “Read a story” parts, it mainly tells us a story about “Jack and the beanstalk”. 3) In this story, there are many new words, also how to use the simple present tense to express simple truth is the key point here. 4) After learning it, Ss should try to re-tell the story and work with group mates to continue the story, and act the story out. Secondly, I analyze the students. 1) This book is for Ss in Grade 5, they have learned English for 5 years, and they can master many verbs, such as “see, smell, hear, taste, feel”2) Also, they have learned the “simple present tense” before, so how to change the verb plus “s, es, ies” is not very difficult for most Ss. 3) The English level of Grade 5 Ss is different, their interest of learning English is different too, so how to meet their needs and build their confidence is the key point here, I think “group work” is a good method. 4) Ss like stories, they like to tell the stories, but some Ss may feel shy to show it, so T should encourage them and provide more chances for the Ss to show themselves. Thirdly, Ill talk about the teaching aims from three aspects: knowledge and skills, procedure and methods, emotion attitude and valued opinionsKnowledge and skills1) In this lesson, Ss should learn some new words and phrases, “bean, beanstalk, giant, castle, goose, golden” “climb up/ down”, which are needed to write and use. 2) Ss should use simple present tense to express the simple truth. 3) After learning the story, Ss should have the ability to retell it and try to continue it. 4) Ss should work with group members to act the story. The key point is to learn the new words and phrases, and read the story. The difficult point is to use the simple present tense to express the simple truth. And retell the story. Procedure and methodsWhen I teach this lesson, I design my procedure like this. 1) Pre-task preparation, While-task procedure, and Post-task activity.Pre-task preparation: revision: simple present tense practice (5 verbs) and then practice more verbs that appear in the story. While-task procedure: 1) Learn new words in sentences 2) Listen to the tape to deal with some problems according to the different aims 3) Open the books and read loudly. 4) practice in different levels: Good: read; Better/Best: retell. Post-task activity: report what they practice in groups, then show in the front. Consolidation and enlargement: work in groups to continue the story. Homework: do the role-play.The methods I use are CAI method, exploring method, situational method, communication method. The method Ss use are cooperation method, role-play method, assessment methodTeaching preparation: Teacher: PPT, pictures and cards, CD-ROM. Students: text book, pen Emotion attitude and valued opinionsThe new curriculum standards advocate the teaching aims on emotion, attitude and valued opinions. This lesson I fully respect students dominant position, and I try to encourage students to speak English, to train students the ability of cooperation and innovation.And then, I explain my teaching steps: Pre-task preparation (warming up, lead-in), while-task procedure, post-task activity.Part 1: Pre-task preparation.I set one activity to practice the verbs. 1) First I show the verbs about the 5 senses, and let Ss read. Then ask them to change the verbs into simple present tense, if they cant, T could give hints, eg. “see- sees” 2) Because these five verbs are easy for the Ss, I show more verbs, which are appeared in todays story, such as “sell, buy, eat, lay, take, cut, see”, and let Ss change.Purpose:1) 承上启下。Revision, and lay a foundationPractice the 5 verbs about the 5 senses at the beginning is to have a revision, because the whole unit 4 is about it, change those forms of the verbs have close, inherent relationship with the lessons before, also it lays a foundation for the later lesson. 2) 渗透课文,便于理解课文. Easy and helpful for Ss to understand. Because the key point in this story is the simple present tense, then I show more verbs that appear in the story, let them change, they will have a general idea about the text of the story, which are easy and helpful for them to understand and tell the story. 3) 树立自信心。Build their confidence. The words are arranged from easy to hard, so Ss are dare and eager to say, it can encourage them to open their mouth to say so they will be confident for the later lesson.Part 2: While-task procedure. I set 4 activities: Activity 1: Learn the new words in the sentences. Before learning the story, it is necessary for the T to introduce the main characters and the new words to the Ss. First I will show some pictures and let them guess the new words, because in the revision part we have reviewed the useful verbs, then I will show the sentences using those verbs and the new words, while Ss read the sentences, they could memorize the new words and know how to use the new words.Purpose: Introduce the new words first can help Ss understand the story without the obstacles. Learn the new words in the sentences, Ss could know how to use the words in a certain context, not only learn the word separately. Activity 2: Listen to the story. This is the most important step. I set several tasks. The first time, Ss will listen to the whole story and try to understand the general idea. The second time, they will listen to the story paragraph by paragraph. I divide the whole story into four parts. First time just listen, second time listen again and deal with some problems according to the different aims until most Ss could retell it. In the first part, they will listen and then do the judge “F” or “T”. In the second part, Ss will listen and choose the words to fill in. They can practice to write new words by the way. In the third part, Ss will listen and fill in the blanks. They can get important information during this part. In the last part, Ss will listen and answer some questions. This part is the basement for their communication successfully. No matter in which part, Ss should try to retell according to the hints I give them.Purpose: 1. Different ways of listening can improve Ss listening ability from different aspects, e.g. Fill in the blank can let them know to catch the important words and improve their writing ability. Answering the questions can give Ss chance to communicate with the other Ss. 2. After dealing with those problems, Ss have the general idea about each part, and then it is easy for them to retell that part. “Striking the iron when it is hot趁热打铁” Activity 3: Open the books and read loudly. Purpose: Because Ss have just listened to the story and most of them could try to retell it, this time open the book and read can give them deeper impression, and it is easier for them to master the whole story.Activity 4: Practice in different levels. According to Ss different level, the method is different, I divide the whole Ss into 3 groups “good, better, best”, here good Ss can just read the story fluently. But better and best can try to retell the story by T pictures. Purpose:1) Practice in different levels can develop Ss potentials and let everyone develop themselves fully. 2) Ss in different levels can meet their needs and good Ss can not lose their confidence, in this way all the Ss could be satisfied.Park 3: Post-task activity. Report in groups and T chooses the different level Ss in different group to show.Purpose: Report in groups or in the front can provided Ss a platform, a chance to let them show themselves, in this way, their self-confidence can be achieved.Part 4: Conso
