After reading the book “Wuthering Heights”, I know many things from it. As is well known to all, this book is written by Emily Bronte, English novelist, who was born at Thornton in Yokshire. She was born in a poor priest family, she and her family moved to Howard areas and lived in a remote wilderness, and she never left there. Emily Bronte, Charlotte and Anne was together called as three sisters constellation in the English literary history. When she was 27 years old, she began to write “Wuthering Heights”. When she was 29 years old, the book was published. However, the book wasnt well received by public and many people regard it as sordid, vulgar, and unnatural. Thus, Emily Bronte think the book is a great failure. It was not until 1850, when Wuthering Heights received a second printing with an introduction by Emilys sister Charlotte, the book was well received by the people. At that time, many people began to read this book and it was well received by people. Whats more, the book, “Wuthering Heights”, received a good reputation. Nowadays, “Wuthering Heights” is not only one of the greatest novels in English literature, but also in the world. Children were required to read when they go to school. “Wuthering Heights” has been listed the greatest novels in China, many people should read it over and over again. It is a classical work, we should cherish the book.Wuthering Heights was published in 1847, and was the only novel written by Emily Bronte .The article analyzes the narration characteristics of Emily Brontes novel, “Wuthering Heights”, from the following three aspects: narration time, narrator, and narration strategies. Wuthering Heights is a story of love and revenge. In addition, Wuthering Heights shows a Gothic writing style, which stems from the Bible. It is told in the form of an extended flashback. It makes use of a newcomer to tell the story, which attracts us. The relationship between Heathcliff and Catherine, hero and heroine in Wuthering Heights, defies any definition of love in its normal sense, which goes beyond time and space from the very beginning. After reading the book, I am impressed by Catherine. She ruins her life for falling in love with Heathcliff. She is a beautiful and spirited, but she is also arrogant. She loves Heathcliff when they stay together, but she loves Edgar at last because of some reasons. Gendre hates Heathcliff, whom makes Gendres father cares a little about Gendre and Catherine. Thus, Gendre begins to maltreat Heathcliff and forces his sister to love Edgar. Heathcliff is very angry and leaves the home to make money. After he comes back to the home, Catherine has got married with Edgar. Heathcliff is very angry and begins to take vengeance on Edgar. However, this makes Catherine die when she gives birth to her daughter. Catherine is innocent and she is controlled by his brother. As far as I am concerned, Heathcliff should not take vengeance on Edgar. If you love her really, you must respect her choice rather than taking vengeance on her. As is known all, if you take vengeance on her, you will be regret for what you have done before. Heathcliff dead after he takes vengeance on Edgar for his behavior has done great harm to Catherine. However, its no use crying the spilt milk. Thus, we should remind that we should respect others choice rather than taking vengeance on each other. We all know Catherine loves Heathcliff. She says my great miseries in this world have been Heathcliffs miseries, and I watched and felt each from the beginning: my great thought in living is himself. If all else perished, and he remained, I should still continue to be; and if all else remained, and he was annihilated, the universe would turn to a mighty stranger: I should not seem a part of itI am Heathcliff! Hes always, always in my mind: not as a pleasure, any more than I is always a pleasure to me, but as my own being. This is the real soul of Catherine, she loves Heathcliff, but she cannot marry with him for her selfish and her pretentious feature. This results in the tragic end for Catherine and Heathcliff. Morever, Heathcliff also loves Catherine deeply. He says :“I cannot live without my life! I cannot live without my soul”. We can know he is very Wuthering Heights is not so easy to “get into”, because the description of the environment and the character, the portrait of this obsessive love is so dark and somewhat off-putting. But in this novel there was the flow of the work in a remarkable way setting the stage for one of the most remarkable structures. And these structures circles upon itself in a series of repetitions as it plays out across two generations. Besides, the description of environment impressed us.“Yesterday afternoon set in misty and cold. I had half a mind to spend it by my study fire, instead of wading through heath and mud to Wuthering Heights. On coming up from dinner, however.I dine between twelve and one oclock; the housekeeper, a matronly lady, taken as a fixture along with the house, could not, or would not, comprehend my request that I might be served at five), on mounting the stairs with this lazy intention, and stepping into the room, I saw a servant girl on her knees surrounded by brushes and coal-scuttles, and raising an infernal dust as she extinguished the flames with heaps of cinders. This spectacle drove me back immediately; I took my hat, and, after a four-miles walk, arrived at Heathcliffs garden gate just in time to escape the first feathery flakes of a snow shower.” This description impresses me a lot for it gave me a torment, you cant see any warm scene in the book, all you see is the fierce wind howled, and wild moor.As a matter of fact, I dont like anyone in “Wuthering Heights”, the reasons are as follows:Firstly , I think those characters in “Wuthering Heights” are all self. They dont care about others and think themselves only. If they think about others , the end will be great. If Catherine cares about Heathcliff , he wont take vengeance on Edgar and they can live a happy life. Actually, she thinks herself only, for she doesnt want to live a poor life and she is arrogant. Gendre is not a real gender and he envies Heathcliff, which results in the sad story happening on his sister. Heathcliff is also wrong for he should not take vengeance on Edgar. He cares about himself also and he wants to destroy Catherines life. If he really loves her, he should respect her choice and says best wishes to her rather than taking vengeance on Edgar. As a whole, the story make peoples mood heavy. Fortunately, the end is happy. The end of the novel was that Heathcliff committed suicide, his death is a die for their love, and express his undyong love for Catherine. Before he died, he gave up the revenge of the next generation. This reflects that he has a good nature, but because of the cruel reality he loses his nature. The recovery of humanity is a spiritual sublimation and reflects the humanitarian ideals.As the novel coils further into alcoholism, seduction, and one of the most elaborately imagined plans of revenge it gathers into a ghostly tone: Heathcliff, driven to madness by a woman who is not there but who seems reflected in eve hearing her calling to him from the moors, escalating his brutality not for the sake of brutality but so that her memory will never fade, so that she may never leave his mind until death itself. Yes, this is madness, insanity, and there is no peace this side of the grave or even beyond. part of his world-dragging her corpse from the grave. Its a meaningful novel, frightening, inexorable, unsettling, filled with unbridled passion that makes one cringe. Even if you do not like it, you should read it
