This story tells about an old man tried to move the mountains. By studying this lesson, it will be much easier for students to establish a Chinese cultural awareness and an international field of vision. Therefore, the teaching emphasis will be put on developing students listening ability and speaking ability by listening and retelling the story.Student Analysis Students are about 13- year- old Grade eight and they have learned English more than five years, so they have already realized the importance of learning English. At the same time, they have improved their own skills of learning. So, the teachers need to give them much more skills and knowledge.III Teaching Objectives1. Knowledge and skillsA: Learn the new words and phrases.B: Talk about the details of Yu Gong moves the mountains in English. C: Review the past tense.D: Students can develop their listening ability and speaking skills.E: Students can learn how to tell a fairy story in English. 2. Process and method 1. The class includes threes parts, pre- listening, while- listening, post-listening. In the pre- listening part, teachers gives some activities to learn words and phrases, and plays three games to practice the new words and phrases. In the while -listening part, teacher plays the video twice. In the post- listening part, teacher gives three questions to discuss. Teacher can uses task-based teaching method and Communicative teaching method to organize the class.3. Emotion,attitude and valueA: Students could cultivate a good habit of learning English.B: Students can develop interest in the China and foreign culture and Promote the cross-culture communication.C: According to the story, when students meet difficulties and challenges, they should never give up, anything is possible.IV Teaching Key and Difficult Points1. Difficult PointsLet students know how to tell a fairy story in English.V Teaching AidsPPT, multimedia, picturesVI Teaching ProceduresStep 1 Warm up and Lead in 1. Greeting.2. Teacher gives three questions. After the first question, teacher introduce the story is the traditional fairy story and then teacher asks students two questions to lead in this class.(Teacher write the classs title in the blackboard )Question1:Have you ever heard a story called 愚公移山?Question2: How to say the storys title in English?Question3: How to tell the story in English?Step 2 Pre - listening 1. Activity - BrainstormTeacher gives students two questions to have a brainstorm. Question1: What fairy stories do you know?Question2: Which story do you like best? 2. Presentation - words and phrases teaching(1)Teacher gives four pictures one by one and teaches students the new words and phrases. At first, teacher lets students describe the four pictures and say the four stories details in Chinese, there are several blanks in every teaching part, students have to fill in the blanks and teacher teaches the pronunciation and meaning of these words and phrases.(2)Conclude the words and phrases and read together.(3)Play three games to practice the phrases.Game1: Back to Back. (One student looks at the picture and does the actions; another student says the title in English)Game2: Flashing card.(Teacher gives pictures of these stories quickly and students say the titles in English as quickly as they can)Game3: Role play.(Teacher gives students some hats of these stories main characters, teacher says the title, and students stand up and say the same title.)3. Activity - complete 1a:Match the stories with pictures a-d4. Let students understand the sentences of activity 1b.Step 3 While listening1. Teacher plays the video twice. The first time students should listen carefully and write down the answers. The second time students can watch the video and check the answers.2. The teacher analyzes the key sentences and checks the answers with students together. Step 4Post listening 1. Activity 1c (1) Let the students watch the blackboard and discuss the three questions with their partner.(2) The teacher gives the answers and teaches language points of the sentences and draws a simple picture of the story.(3) The teacher gives a conclusion about how to tell a fairy story.2. Activity - Lets act outAccording to the picture, teacher sets a good example for students about how to retell this story in English.Step 5 Summaries and Homework 1. Do the summary together with students and let them have a clear clue about what they have learned.2.
