In this period, students should learn to ask for information politely and give directions to offer help correctly. The teaching content in this part is closely related to studentsreal life. So it is easy to arouse students interest to communicate with others by using simple English sentences. This period is begin with a free talk that is related to their real life. Students need to give directions to help a exchange student -David who is from America and come to study in Jiang Lu school. Students should help David to find Jiang Lu school. In this way, we can not only arouse students interest, but also can review the expressions of giving directions. Using the pictures of different places to review the English names of different places and learn some new places such as restroom, bookstore. At the same , we can use a question (What can we do in this place?) to connect the names of different places with the phrases that appeared in 1a. In order to increase their interest in class, we can play a guessing game before showing these different places, for example before showing the picture of a place ,I will tell students that David needs to go to four different places, and you can guess what places they are. Students can guess the place by looking at the phrases I showed on the screen. What more, we can use the important sentence structures in this period “ Could you please tell me where I can.” and “Excuse me, do you know where I can ?” to practice all the phrases showed on the screen. Then finish task 1a and do some listening task in 1b. After finishing task 1a, I will ask students to pay attention to the meaning of get in phrases. After listening, students are required to listen and follow the recording. In this way, students can improve their pronunciation. Then we will come to the conversation in 1c. At first, students are required to read the conversation. Then , I will summarize the important sentence structures about how to ask for information politely. At last, using the expressions that we learned to make conversations. In this part, I designed two different group work. The first one is to make conversation in group according to the picture 1 and the conversation sample I give. The second one is to make conversation in real situation. The exchange student David need to do four things, but he doesnt know the way. The exchange students David need to go to four different places and you can guess where they are according to the phrases I give to them. (8 minutes)Step 3 Practice1) Match each thing with a place in the picture in 1a.2) Read the phrases, and pay attention to the different meaning of “ get”. (3min)Step 4 Listening1) Listen and complete the conversations in the picture in 1a. Then check the answers with the whole class.(4min)2) Listen to the tapes and ask students to follow the tapes and imitate the pronunciations. Step 5 Practice1) Read the conversation together.2) Summarize the sentences structure about how to ask for information politely.(8 minutes)Step 6 Group WorkTo consolidate the new sentences, the Ss will be assigned to role play the conversations in groups according to the sample 1c and the picture in 1a.They can deal with some problems in groups or ask the teacher for help.Two groups will show their play.(8minutes)Step 6 Group WorkIn this part, the Ss will be asked to do a group work. Now ,the exchange student David is at Xiangtan number one middle school. He wants to do four things, but he doesnt know the way. So he needs your help. In this part , we use the pictures to tell students where he needs to go what he needs to do. Ss will be assigned to choose one task and make a conversation in group. They should use the questions that we learned to ask for information politely.
