Section A 1a1cTeaching aims 1.Knowledge aims: Learn new words and target language:(1) Key vocabulary :curly ,straight, tall, short, medium, height, build, be of medium height/build thin, heavy, (2)Target language : -What does he look like ? -Hes of medium height , and he has long straight hair. -Is he tall or short? - Well ,hes really tall.2 Ability aims(1) Train students listening ability.(2) Train students communicative competence.3 Moral aims: Dont judge by appearance.4 Learning strategies: Group cooperation and exchange.5 Cultural aims: Make students know cultural differences describing peoples looks.Teaching important points:1 Key words and target language 2 Listening and saying training Teaching difficult points Use “is” and “has”to describe peoples looks correctly. S: Good afternoon, teacher. T: In this class, we will learn unit 9. Can you tell me the title? S: What does he look like? T: Ask three students with obviously different looks to stand up to as models, Other students describe their hair,height and build,( a fat and tall boy ,a thin and short boy, of medium build boy).T: Do you want to learn how to describe peoples looks in English,OK. lets start our class. Step Two : learn some words of our bodies , T: I will show the students a picture of a lovely boy , ask students to say some words of his bodies . Then I ask one student to come to the blackboard,others look at her and add some other words of our bodies. Step Three : play a touching game. T: If I say “touch your nose:, you should touch your nose ,do you understand? Step Four . presentation T : Different people have different looks. For example: we have different hairs. What kind of hair do you know? They can tell answers as many as they can.T: lets look at the PPT. tell students how to describe our hair.and read the words together. Then the teacher give the Ss an example. Then ask Ss practice like this. A: what does she look like ? B: she has long, straight blonde hair.Then we talk about how to describe our height and do pair workA: what does he/she look like? B: he is tall,/he is of medium height./he is short.At last we talk about how to describe our build and do pair work.A: what does he/she look like ?B: she is heavy (she is of medium build ) He is thin. . Step Five: play a guessing game . T: I will ask two boys and two girls stand up and have a competition between them . Who can get the right answers most is the winner . Step Six : practice the new words (1a) . T : now please look at P41 , use the letters to match the people in the picture with one of the numbered words ,write each letter next to a numbered word. You can use some letters more than once . T ; look . there is a very big picture.and tell me where it is .its in the subway station . And there is a girl . her name is Amy . she is waiting for her friends in the subway station .(About one minute late) . T: who can tell me the answer ? S: who can tell me the answer ? Then check the answer together . Step Seven:listening (1b) Amys friend looks like and listen and say what draw a picture of him.T :I have a good friend .Her name is Amy. Look, this is Amy. Now she comes to the station to meet her friend . But there are so many people. She cant find her friend . can you help her ? now lets listen to the tape and help Amy find her friend , OK ?(After listening )T: who can tell me what Amys friend look like ?S: he is really tall ,And he has curly hair .Step Eight: pay attention to “has” and “is” .Step Nine: practice the new drill, play PPT to show pictures of some famous people , ask students to talk about their looks .For example : she is Shen Dian xia . Shes very heavy and of medium height . She has short black hair. She always wears glasses and always smiles . She likes talking to people .Step Ten: SummaryIn this class we have learned some new words and drills to describe peoples looks .New words: hair, curly, straight ,tall, medium, height, thin,heavy,build.New drill: what does/do he /she look like?Some people are beautiful, some people and handsome .but some people are not.
