Teaching Key Points Key vocabulary: walk, subway, take the subway, train, take the train, ride a bike, take the bus, take a taxi, go in a parents car. III. Teaching Difficulties Target language: How do you get to school? I walk. I ride my bike. How does Bob get to school? He takes the train. IV. Teaching Methods: Pairwork、 Group workV. Teaching tools:A tape recorder; A projector.VI. Teaching Procedures Step I Lead- in 1. Greet the class2 Show the screen. This is a video. There are so many transportations, Let us enjoy the English song and tell me what kinds of transportations you can see in the video?Say, Today were talking about how you go from one place to another. Step II PresentationFirst ask students to look at the picture. Teach the students some new words: bicycle , train , subway , plane , jeep ,car and at the same time have a revision of the words like bus , bike , taxi and please look at the screen(some pictures) and answer me : How do you get to school ? I walk. /I get to school on foot. I ride my bike, etc . Then let students say how other students in the picture getto school. Give them some help if necessary. For example, take the bus; take the train; take the subway. 1a Read the phrases to them and ask them to repeat. Then ask them to write them in the box and add other ways to get to school. Then check the answers. Step III Practice1b First point out the names of the students in the box. Ask one student to read the names. Now listen to the conversation. Please write the number of the name in the white box next to the student. Check the answers on the screen. Then ask the students how Bob /Mary /Paul /Yang Lan /John gets to school? Then use these persons to make a dialogue like this: A: Hey, Bob. How do you get to school? B: I take the train. How about you, Mary? A: I take the subway. Ask students to complete the activity individually. Then check the answer. Step IV Numbers 1. Revise the number .2. Teach the new word: minute.3. Look at the screen and please follow me. (The numbers)4 .Play the tape for the students to finish 2a&2b .Then play again and check the answers.Step V Dialogue 1 .(T) You know, Im from Xiang he, I often take a bus to Beijing. It takes me about 100 minutes to Beijing. But sometimes I take a taxi to Beijing. .It only takes me 60 minutes. Can you tell me: “How long does it take to get from your home to school?”2 .(T) Please look at the screen and tell me the Chinese meaning of “How long does it take”. Here “take” in Chine means “花费”,and the first “take” we know that means “乘坐”.3.Now, please look at the sentences and follow me:-How do you get to school?-I ride the bike.-How long does it take?-It takes 20 minutes.4. (T) Please look at the pictures and answer my questions:-How do you get to school?-How long does it take? 5. Pair work: Ask the students to ask and answer in pairs in 2 minutes and then act them out.6.Listening 2C Listen and checkStep VI Pair work Ask two students to read the dialogue in the box to the class. A: How does Bob get to school? B: He takes the train. Then look at the pictures on the screen and talk about them in pairs .e.g. A: How does Liu Xiang get to work? B: He takes the subway.A: How long does it take?B: It takes 15 minutes.As they talk, move around the room, offering language or pronunciation support as needed. Step VII Group work Make a survey. Ask your classmates in your group these questions: Excuse me .How do you get to school? How long does it take ? And fill in the chart. Then report to the class. Step VIII HomeworkYou can read some books, search the Internet or ask the others , to discuss how students around the world get to school.Blackboard Design :Unit 3 How
