Unit 10 Birthday Food Around the World 成都七中八一学校 马艺珊Analysis of teaching materials: With the curriculum reform in China, the new curriculum has been widely promoted in China until now. The new curriculum promotes communicative approach to develop students comprehensive language competence. According to the functional linguistic view, on one hand, language learning should focus on language use, not only on language knowledge learning; on the other hand, real communication should be used in classes. Based on the theory of communicative language learning, many tasks are designed to be finished by students under the lead of teacher. Through real communication in classes, students realize how to apply English into use. Furthermore, the language class should be students-oriented. Under the guidance and the help of teacher, students develop their language skills, good study habits and effective learning strategies in an integrated way through real communication learning environment. Moreover , students can feel some cultural awareness in the process of language learning.二Analysis of the Teaching MaterialLearning Condition Analysis of the Teaching Material The topic is about birthday food in different countries. The students will learn how different countries spend their birthday and what they eat. In this lesson, students will be able to express their need for food and learn how to ask others information. Whats more, it is a good reading material to be learnt by students. Analysis of the Learning Condition The class will consist of 37 students from grade One, Junior. According to investigation of the students, the number of female and male students is almost the same. The average level of the students is a little higher than the other classes in the school, but the level of the class is different, great individual difference exists, so more attention should be paid to keep the balance of tasks designing.三Language Focus and Anticipated Difficulties1.Language Focus Understand and master the meaning of new phrases: make a wish, blow out, get popular, cut up 2. Know more about what people do and eat on their birthday; . Know the meaning of having the birthday五. Teaching Methods As for reading teaching, usually take 3-stage Model (pre-reading, while-reading, and post-reading) PPP teaching model (presentation, practice and production)六Teaching Aids blackboard, chalk, PPT七Teaching ProceduresStep1 Leading in Teachers activityShow a picture of a birthday cake.Ask Ss :what we should say to the person who is on birthday.Students activityDiscussion.Read the sentences on the screen.AimsTo stimulate students interest, motivate them to participate in the class activity and to introduce the some information about the topic.Step 2 Pre-readingTeachers activity1.Discuss 3 questions:1) What do you do on your birthday?2) What do you eat on your birthday?3) What birthday traditions do you know?2. Use a mind-map to help Ss have a better understanding of the birthday, especially with the help of some key words, birthday song, birthday cake ,birthday person, birthday party, birthday gift, birthday food.3. Game: Show some national flags of several countries, then ask the students to choose any one they like, and introduce the different birthday traditions of the countries to them.4. Emphasize the popular birthday traditions to Ss: blow out the candles on the birthday cake; the number of the candles is the birthday persons age; blow the candles in one go.
