Unit6 An old man tried to move the mountains(I) 西安交大附中分校:马婷教材分析:(Analysis of the teaching material): Status and Functions: Background on the reformation of curriculum, Go for it! adopts Task-based teaching model, and forms a learning procedure in which knowledge is gained step by step and the instruction is given close to life. The book is designed to achieve mastery through a comprehensive study of the topics, communicative functions, as well as language structures. Each unit in Go for it! is divided into two parts: Section A and Section B. Section A introduces the key vocabulary and target language and provides several step-by-step activities and then one or two interactive exercises. Section B introduces new vocabulary while recycling the language presented in Section A. Activities in Section B are designed to help students put what they have learnt in this unit even some in earlier units into practice comprehensively.Today Im going to talk about the first period of Section A of Unit 6. The topic of this unit is An old man tried to move the mountains? This unit is designed to teach students how to tell a story by using the simple past tense. This lesson is not so closely related to students daily lives because they are just some legends. But it encourages students to tell a story using the target language and their own words. Its quite easy to arouse students interests in communicating with each other by using the English learnt in this unit. In the process of learning, students are encouraged to express and share their own ideas on describing what stories they like and how to tell a story vividly and logically. 学情分析:(Analysis of the students) :Students in Grade 8 are eager to get new information. So they must be interested in the topic of this unit. Because they are still teenagers and are not so elder than children, and children love stories of course. They are supposed to understand how to use the simple past tense and target vocabulary to tell a story. However its difficult for many students to tell a Chinese story using another language. The class aims to talk about the story Yu Gong moves the mountains and encourage students to conclude how to tell a story and finally tell the story vividly and logically by themselves. 教学目标:(Teaching aims)1. By the end of this class, Ss will be able to tell the story Yu Gong moves the mountains vividly and logically using the target language and conjunctions.2. Ss learn to use the target language by listening and speaking and learn how to get information from a the recording(Learn some listening strategies)3. Students can understand you never know whats possible unless you try to make it happen. Persistence helps to make your dream closer. Students can cooperate with others, help each other and finally accomplish the story task together. This can also help them to build good relationships. 重、难点:Important points: 1.Key phrases and the proper use of the simple past tense; 2.How to tell a story using the target phrases reasonably.Difficult points: Encourage students to tell the story logically and vividly using conjunctions and the target language. 资源应用:Resources of teaching :Teachers book & Students book & chalk& multi-media.教学过程:Teaching Procedures Step 1. Greetings and leading-in:Ask: Do you like stories? And show several pictures about the traditional Chinese stories or legends.Students talk about each story using their own words. Try to give each story a suitable name and finish activity 1a.Its designed to help the students know what they will learn in this class and to help students get some preparations about how to tell a story. Step2. Listening comprehension:Students have to accomplish three tasks in this step:To tell what story the two students are talking about.To check the facts they hear while they are listening.To discuss three questions relate to the story after listening.1). How does the story begin? 2). What happened next?3). Where would they put all the earth and stone from the mountains?Its designed for students not only to get the key words and target language but to train their abilities of listening and speaking. Step3. PresentationPresent new words and new phrases after the discussion by inviting students to tell part of the story and practice them by doing the blank filling exercises. Its designed to help students learn to observe and learn some new words and ways to show the story. And they can understand and use the target vocabulary freely and correctly.Step4. Listening comprehension:Students have to accomplish four tasks in this step:1. To guess about the left of the story by describing each picture in 2a. 2. To give about the right order of these pictures based on their guesses.3. To finish 2b. Circle the correct words they hear. 4. To challenge their memory and finish the blank filling exercises. Its designed to train their abilities of listening skills and to test whether they concentrate on the listening material or not for they have to finish the left part of the story by doing the blank filling exercises.Step5. A summary about how to tell a story: Pay attention to who, where, when, what, and why, how sometimes. Key phrases and conjunctions display.Its designed for students to conclude by themselves as for how to tell a story logically and pay attention to details.Step6. Group work. Students work in groups to tell the story together. Each student is expected to tell part of the story.Its designed for students to practice the key words and target language. And they learn to work with others and relax as well. It also can arouse students interests in learning English.Step7. A discussion about the story. What do you think about the story of Yu Gong?In Chinese, “Yu” means silly, and “Zhi” means clever. Do you think Yu Gong is really silly while Zhi Sou is pretty clever or even wise? If you were Gong, what would you do?Its designed to train the students ability of analyzing the people in the story and have the moral education as well. Learn about the Yu Gong spirit. Persistence helps to make your dream closer. You can never know what is possible unless you try to make it happen.Step8.
