(See Teaching resources III)Step IV Grammar Ask the students to read the questions and answers in the grammar box and sum up the sentence structure. T: Now, please read the questions and answers in the grammar box. When you read the questions, pay attention: The verb that follows can or cant, never has an -s at the end. Also you should pay special attention to the difference between the pronunciations of the word can and cant. You may think that the word cant is pronounced with a strong /t/ sound at the end. However, this is not true. The difference in the way American English speakers say the two words is this: they say “kn” for can, and “ca” (stopping the sound in the throat instead of using a /t/ at the end) for cant. At the same time, write down the sentence structure on the blackboard. Can we / you / they / she / he _, Alex?We / I / They / She / He cant _, but_. T: Pay attention: The simple form of the verb always comes after can or cant. Practice suggestion: Ask the students to work in groups and write down their questions and answers on a card or a piece of paper, show their work to the group members. And then ask and answer questions.Sample conversations: 1) S1: What are the rules at your school? S2: D
