Unit4 I used to be afraid of the dark (SectionA 4a- 4c)林城中学 唐苏琴Analysis of teaching material: The topic of this unit focuses on how we have changed, including what we used to be like and now. All activities are carried out around how to talk about what we used to be like and now. This unit aims to guide students to know how they changed. And this period is to review Section A. In this period, students can learn more about their friends .Analysis of the students:1. As Junior Two students, they are quick in thought. And students at this stage are willing to express their opinions towards topics that they are interested in. 2. Our school is a village school, the students English language basis is kind of poor, especially the skills of writing. Some students are not very active in English class because they are afraid of making mistakes. 3. Although students have already learned some related words, like short, tall, shy, outgoing, serious,hobby and so on, they still lack vocabularies of peoples changes and how to give opinions.Teaching objectives:1. Knowledge objectives:Students will be able to use the following words and patterns properly in given situations : a). tall, short, outgoing, humorous, silent, helpful, used to, didnt use to. b). -I used to be short? -I didnt use to be short. -You used to wear glasses, didnt you? -Yes, I did./ No, I didnt.C) -Did he use to wear glasses?-Yes, he did./ No, he didnt.2. Ability objectives: Students will be able to talk about what they used to be like. Students will be able to talk about their appearance and personality. Students will be able to make a survey about group members changes.3. Emotional objectives: Students will be able to share their changes with others. Students will be able to cooperate in groups and communicate with others in English.Teaching important points: Students will be able to master the key words and sentence patterns.Teaching difficult points: Students will be able to talk about what they used to be like. Warming up(3 mins)1. Talk with the students about what they used to be like.T: I used to be short, but now I am tall. What about you ?S: T: Did you use to be serious?S: Yes, I did./ No, I didnt.2. Then show the students a beautiful English song.1. Students will follow the teachers pace and talk about what they used to be like.2. Students will listen to the song and learn the sentences about “used to”.通过free talk和音乐的欣赏,放松心情,谈论教师和他们各自的外貌和性格变化(活动以师生互动为主)。 以旧知识带出新知识,因为学生在上两节课已经接触过used to句型,为本课时学习更多的used to 用法做好铺垫。Step2. Presentation (5 mins.)1. Show students pictures of stars and let them have a brainstorm.T: He used to be shy but now he is outgoing.He didnt use to be outgoing. But now he is outgoing.-Did he use to be shy?-Yes,he did. He used to have black hair but now he has brown hair.He didnt use to have brown hair. -Did he use to have brown hair ?-No,he didnt.1. Students will speak out the changes of him.2. Students will focus on the basic sentences and try their best to speak out.3. Students will like these pictures.使用学生感兴趣的明星图片,可以提高学生参与的兴趣度,同时激发学生的发散性思维,迅速扩大学生的词汇量。Step3. Practice (3 mins.)1. Talk about your change.Say sentences as many as you can.I used to be/have/wear/like., but now I am/have/wear/like.I didnt use to ., but now I .T:Time can change everything.1. The students will talk about their changes with the key words .本环节主要是对所学有关人物变化词汇和句型的巩固,通过所给句型的提示,难度不大,基本上全班同学都可以达成。同时也给不同程度学生进行自由发挥的机会。Step4. Presentation (5 mins.)GroupworkMake a survey in your class about who has changed most. Then make a report. They can choose a students who has changed most, so they can use these topic sentences well.1. Students will talk about their changes and students will know more about their friends.(The chart can help students know how to talk abut their changes.) 从词汇学习到巩固,再到本环节的句型操练和实际运用,各部分任务一步一步从易到难,由浅入深,符合学生的认知过程, 也符合新课程标准(2011版)要注重培养学生实际运用语言能力的要求。Step 5. Pair work(1 mins.)1. Ask them to focuses on the Grammar focus and ask students to do pair work with it. 1. Students will work in pairs of two and talk.学生通过对语法的朗读和操练,进一步对主要句型的巩固。Step 6. Exercise(5 mins.)4a Write sentences about the past using used to.(finish 4a)1. Teacher will check students work and check the answers.2. Take photos for their works and show others on PPT. Then check the answers according to the work.这个环节给与学生思考和落笔的机会,在训练口语的基础上也锻炼了书写。同时通过手机同屏技术将学生作业上传到电脑,不仅及时进行批改,还激发了学生的学习兴趣。Step7. Practice (7 mins.) Ask students to write some sentences about Emily, pay attention to the tense. 1.Teacher will check students work and check the answers.2. Take photos for their works and show others on PPT. Then check the answers according to the work.本环节的设计让学生进一步理解过去时的不同表达方式,在说的基础上练习写,更能纠正错误。同时通过手机同屏技术将学生作业上传到电脑,不仅及时进行批改,还能督促学生的认真态度。Step8. Group work (8 mins)1. Students will work in groups of four.2. Then the reporter will give a report in the front of the classroom. 3. In this step, students will carry out the activity with the teachers help.本环节是学生对整堂课所有词汇和句型的综合运用和产出,无论是对话还是报告都是输出过程,都是以学生活动为主,教师的任务是辅助和调控。同时同学之间的友谊更近一步。 Step9.
