How to Prepare for the Future EmploymentIt is true that seeking a job is getting more and more difficult in the increasingly competitive job market.How to prepare for the future employment is a hot topic among college students. Some believe that we must work hard to ensure a good academic performance and take part-time jobs to enrich our working experience. When we are qualified for the job, were ready for future employment.Lectures and DiscussionsThere is a heated debate over the advantage of lectures and discussions, the two main styles of teaching in university. It is commonly accepted that lectures can help students learn more and quickly. In contrast, others hold that discussion can stimulate the students to learn by themselves.Those who prefer lectures suggest that attending a lecture can save your precious time. In their view, this method teaches students the value of discipline and self-control. However, those like the teaching method of discussion argue that the teacher usually guides the class without dominating it. They believe that engagement in a discussion help students develop the ability to analyze and solve problems.In my opinion, different methods have different advantages. Compared with lectures, I like discussions better because discussions are more flexible and students can develop their problem-solving skills through discussion with their classmates and the teachers.Silence Is Not Always GoldMany people believe that in the popular saying, “Silence is gold.” because they regard silence as a merit and believe that silence can bring them benefits and avoid some troubles.However, if you always keep silent, you will probably miss many golden opportunities instead of obtaining the gold of silence. In the modern society, communication is vital for success. You need to express your opinions and ideas, and if you want something, ask for it. Lets take a pay rise for instance. If you work hard and have a great achievement, and you think you deserve a pay rise, what will you do? Keeping silence would make your boss believe that you are satisfied with your salary, and thus you might miss the opportunity of getting a pay rise. It is the same with promotion.From what we have discussed above, we should understand that “Silence is gold.” is not always right and you might miss a lot and gain much less if you keep silent all the time.On Income Sources between Chinese and American StudentsAs shown in the table, income sources of Chinese students are quite different from those of American students. Chinese students get their money mainly from their parents, while American students relieve their parents financial burden by earning half of their money.There are three reasons for the difference. First, different values produce different attitudes toward financial independence. Second, most Chinese parents think it is their duty to support their childrens education and taking part-time job is a waste of time that could otherwise be used for study. By contrast, in America, many parents encourage their kids to finance their education. Finally, only a few students in Chinese universities have the opportunities to get scholarship, but in America it is quite a different story.In my opinion, Chinese students need to work together with their parents to develop their self-dependence, dealing with more of their own financial problems by their own.Advantages of Saving MoneyMany people are fortunate enough to make more money than they immediately need. What should they do with this extra income? Moat people just spend it all on things they desire, and some people decide to save it.Saving the extra income is of great significance. First of all, by saving money, people may give themselves more security. They cannot predict the future; perhaps one day they will be jobless. Their savings can spare them a great deal of suffering and help to see them through a hard time. In addition, saving money allows people to build up a large sum. Finally, the practice of saving helps people develop the habit of setting goals and planning for their future.As a college student, I agree with the advantages of saving money, and I think if we learn to save our extra money, we can gain more advantages in the future, leading more secure and, thus, happier lives.Practice Makes PerfectThere is a famous saying, “Practice makes perfect”, which means that we have to practice again and again whenever we want to be an expert in a specific field.Lets take English learning as an example. If you want to be an efficient and effective reader, you should know enough words and some important reading skills, but most importantly, you have to read a lot and practice the words and skills. It is the same with English writing. Without enough practice, its impossible to write a good article.Another good case in point is swimming. You may have a good coach and know the techniques of swimming well, but without swimming in the pool time and time again, you cant swim at all, let alone swim well.From what we have discussed above, we should have understand the proverb better. And we can also conclude that “practice makes perfect”.Food SafetyCurrently, many problems concerning the safety of food have popped up. As for me, I believe that at least three factors account for this issue.First, I find that many food producers are driven by profits, doing illegal things. They aim to gain more money at the expense of consumers health. Second, the overuse of agricultural pesticide has resulted in the degradation of food quality. The excessive pesticide is an enormous health hazard to people. Furthermore, some food producers even inject hormones into domestic animals to make them grow more quickly, hoping to earn more profits in a less time. As a result, peoples health has been seriously hurt.All in all, food safety is in such great danger that we all should take action, passing more laws and implementing them more effectively so as to avoid unsafe food.Students Pursuit of Famous BrandsNowadays many college students tend to pursue famous brands. From clothes to mobile phones, even study devices like electronic dictionaries, they are inclined to buy famous brands. Moreover, some students from poor families begin to follow this consumption trend as well. This phenomenon has aroused wide attention.The following reasons can account for college students preference for famous brands. Above all, in many college students eyes, a famous brand is a symbol of sophistication and taste. They expect others to admire their upper class and good taste. Whats more, in modern society, famous brands to some extent are equal to fashion, which has a great attraction to college students. Besides, their being spoiled by their parents helps form this improper consumption habit.In my eyes, it is irrational for college students to pursue famous brands. After all, most of famous brands are far beyond their consumption ability. Besides, it is nit famous brands but a persons noble character that really makes him upper-class. Therefore, college students should attach more importance to cultivating a good character rather than pursuing famous brands.Should Private Cars Be Encouraged in ChinaAs both of industry and economy has been greatly developed in China, the number of people who own private cars is on the rise. And there are two different views on this phenomenon.Some people argue that private cars can bring convenience and mobility to the owners. If more people buy cars, automobile industry will develop dramatically. Whats more, the growth of automobile industry can trigger the boom of other important industries such as iron and steel, energy and technological application. In short, they are in favor of developing private cars.However, others hold that automobiles will give rise to a series of problems such as more serious environmental pollution, more traffic accidents and more energy consumption. Besides, there are about 1.4 billion people in China. If every family owns a car, there would be too many cars running on our land, which will certainly lead to traffic congestion and pose threat to the existence of people. Therefore, they are against developing private cars in China.The Traffic RegulationsTraffic regulations are indispensable to city life. In order to let people feel safe on the street, all vehicles must keep to the right side; cars must keep within the speed limits; people must keep to the sidewalk. In all large cities, pedestrians are not allowed to cross the street except at the crossing when the policeman or traffic lights signal them to do so.However, these rules are too often ignored by people in some cities. Pedestrians cross the street anywhere or even stroll leisurely in the middle of the street without paying attention to the traffic on the move. Cars or trucks race along busy street in total disregard of the safety of others. The stream of bicycles is especially dangerous when they dash about along the sea of moving vehicles and people. Sometimes they rush out unexpectedly from a side lane, giving people a start. Sometimes they knock people down, causing injury to them. And worst of all, sometimes they might get killed in their haste to cross the path of a bus. According to statistics, bicycles account for most of the road accidents in cities.To cope with the situation, the police have started a campaign to make streets safer to the public. Television is very effective in warning people of the danger for disobeying traffic regulations. Penalties ranging from fines to imprisonment will be carried out against offenders. We hope things will become better with more and more people beginning to realize the importance of observing traffic regulations.InternetTwo-edged SwordInternet is playing an increasing important role in peoples life. As a newborn information delivering system, Internet has made various information available at our fingers tip. For example, by surfing the net, researchers can get a global look at the latest development in their professional fields. Besides, Internet serves as the most convenient means of communication. Through Internet, people can discuss various problems and those who share common views can make friends. Internet is also a faithful aid in our daily life since people can go shopping and get medical service online. So Internet in indeed one of the most interesting and important inventions man has ever made. But just as a coin has two sides, Internet has its own drawbacks which should be neglected. First, it costs a large amount of money to construct the system. Second, it is sometimes difficult for people to find the right information they are looking for since there is too much information on the net. Finally, it is also difficult to protect the net from the invasion of criminals.But we should not give up eating for fear of choking.
