Unit 6 An old man tried to move the mountains.Section A ReadingI. Teaching aims1) Through reading, the students get to know something about the Monkey King. After the activities in this class, they can say something about the Monkey King. They get more reading skills (skimming and scanning) from this lesson to get related information from reading.2) To help the students study new words with some strategies, practice their reading and speaking skills.3) From this lesson, Id like to lead my students to learn something about the Monkey King and tell them not to give up when they meet difficulties just like the Monkey King.II. Important points and difficulties:In this lesson, its important to study the new words and phrases related to the topic and grasp the main idea through reading. The students may have difficulty in understanding the long sentences and retelling.III. Teaching processStep 1 Warming upAs the students and the teacher are new to each other, the teacher divides the whole class into two big groups. And then tell the students about the rules to get marks for their own group and the winner will get Monkey King Milk Candy as awards.Step 2 Leading-inLet the students watch a video about the Monkey King without sound, and the teacher introduces the students the story about the Monkey King with the main sentences in this passage.It aims at arousing the students interest and emotion to retell the story like the teacher.Step 3 Word studyShow the students three sentences from the passage, the new words in this lesson are all in them.Show the students some pictures about the new words, let the students guess the meaning of these new words according to the sentences and the pictures.Help the students try to memorize the words with the regularity of pronunciation and comparison with the old words they studied before. It aims at helping them study new words easily.Let the students read the sentences in class so that the teacher may know how much the students have mastered in this step.In order that the students get more familiar with the new words, the teacher organizes the students to remember them by showing the phonetics and the spelling, and let the students read out the words and then spell. One can get one point for their group for one right word.Step 4 Skimming and scanning1) Show the students main ideas of the three paragraphs, Let the students skim the passage and match. Check the answers. It aims at helping the students to know better about the structure of the passage.2) Let the students scan the passage and answer the questions. It aims at helping the students clearer about the main character and the characteristics of the Monkey King and his spirits. 3) Let the students read along the recorder in order to make sure about the pronunciation and tone. 4) Let the students read the passage and underline the phrases according to the Chinese meaning of them on the screen and the part they may have difficulty in understanding. Check the answers.5) Scan the passage and tell true or false. Let the students find the sentences which have the same meaning as the sentences given. This part aims at helping the students to understand the important sentences in this lesson and helping them clear about the two difficult and important structures “unless”and “sothat”.Step 5 A gameLet the students read the sentences in one breath and repeat them out correctly, they can get one point for the easy ones and two points for the long sentences. These sentences are materials for retelling the passage. It aims at helping the students to retell the story more easily in the later step.Step 6 RetellingLet the students retell the story about the Monkey King according to the given words. Before the game, tell them this is the last chance for them to get more marks for their own group. Give them some time to get ready for it.Step 7 Summary and homework1) Summarize with the students.Recall the passage by watching the video with sound about the Monkey King. It makes the students more clear about the king and his spirits.After all these activities, the teacher shows the students the grade of each group. Hand out the Monkey King Milk Candy to the winners.2) HomeworkShow the students the homework for today and let them choose one of them to finish. Tell something about the Monkey King to
