1 Teaching Design 白银市平川中学白银市平川中学 周有勤周有勤 Teaching content How to improve our writing language Teaching aims This class is designed to discuss English writing aimed to improve the senior students writing language The value of it lies in the fact that most upper or inter mediate students complain why they can t get high marks though everything is covered in their writing with no errors or mistakes made Actually they don t realize that in spite of the completeness correctness and nice handwriting of their English writing simple words phases and sentence patterns are used repeatedly in their writing from the beginning to the end showing very low language standard which accounts for their unsatisfied writing marks However by arousing the students awareness and doing some practice the students writing language can be improved and this is the goal of this class Teaching Steps Leading in Examining a writing passage by referring to the standards for a 2 full mark composition 1 Characteristics of a full mark composition Clear Clean handwriting is clear and clean 书写整洁书写整洁 Complete cover all the information with nothing lost 信息完整信息完整 Correct use correct words sentences and punctuation marks in expression 表达正确表达正确 Various use varieties of words and sentence patterns to express the ideas freely 语言丰富语言丰富 Cohesive use proper connecting words phrases and even sentences to connect the context making the writing cohesive in meaning 语意连贯语意连贯 2 Examining the writing passage Dear Sir or Madam My name is Li Hua I would like to work as a volunteer for the 2008 Olympics I m a boy and I m 18 I was born in Beijing I m a middle school student I want to do something for the 2008 Olympics I m good at English I like sports I m good at communicating with others I like helping others I m familiar with Beijing It is important for the work If you give me the chance I ll try my best to offer the best service to others Please accept my application I won t disappoint you Looking forward to your reply Yours faithfully Li Hua 3 Finding out the problems in the passage 1 The same subject I 2 Simple repeated words be good at like 3 Simple repeated sentence patterns I m 4 No necessary transitions except and Putting forward the possible ways to improve 1 Change the subjects 2 Use the advanced words and phrases 3 Use varieties of sentence patterns 4 Use proper transitions Practising the ways by using detailed examples 1 Change the subject 改变主语 改变主语 I ll offer the best service to others Offering the best service to others is my goal 用 ing 形式做主语 It is my goal to offer the best service to others 用 It 做主语 2 Choose advanced phrases 选取高级词汇选取高级词汇 I like sports be fond of be interested in be crazy about This is important for the work be of great importance 4 I ll try my best to offer the best service make every effort 3 Use different sentences 使用多样句型使用多样句型 I am familiar with Beijing It is important for the work I am familiar with Beijing which is important for the work 用定语从句 I m a boy and I m 18 I was born in Beijing I m a middle school student Born in Beijing I m an 18 year old boy studying in a middle school 用分词做状语或定语 I m familiar with Beijing 套用经典句型 Another reason lies in the fact that I m familiar with Beijing The most important thing is that I m familiar with Beijing There is no doubt that I m familiar with Beijing 4 Use transitions 使用过渡连接成份 使用过渡连接成份 表层次顺序 罗列增加常用 First Second Third Fourth Last To begin with Besides What s more In addition Finally etc First and foremost Also Furthermore Last but not least etc Refining the original writing passage by using the ways learned above 5 Dear Sir and Madam My name is Li Hua I am writing to apply for a job to work as a volunteer for the 2008 Olympics Born in Beijing I am an 18 year old boy studying in a middle school I am prepared to make a great contribution to the Olympics First I am fluent in English which is of great importance Besides I am fond of sports What is more communicating with other is what I like most In addition I am always ready to help others Last there is no doubt that I am familiar with Beijing b
