familiar to students so it is easy to encourage all the students to take part in the activities in class It is helpful to improve students listening speaking reading writing skills A A Key Points of the Teaching Material The language goal of this unit to describe animals and express preferences In Section A of this unit the students have learnt to use the animals names and some adjectives such as cute small scary interesting fun and smart to describe them So in Section B we will learn some more new description words first like ugly friendly beautiful shy and clever Then students can practice using the new words with the old sentence structure For example What animals do you like Why do you like I like pandas because they are shy Let me give you some details Part 1 is to learn some new adjectives to describe animals We must master them They are the most important words in this period 2a and 2b is a piece of listening material It will give them deeper impression of the new words They are asked to listen for the adjectives first and then learn more details and write down some important information This part is the most difficult It is to train the students listening and writing skills Part 3 is pairwork Students have learnt to use the adjectives to describe animals They can practice conversations in and out of class freely So this is an important chance to train their communicative competence They have also practiced their abilities of listening speaking reading and writing After these steps the students will know different kinds of animals They can talk about animals that they like or dislike by using the adjectives B Teaching and Learning Difficulties a Listening material It s always hard for students to understand because we seldom use it after class b pleasure from them So we should protect and treasure them 3 Teaching and Learning Methods A Audio lingual approach The main language goal of this part is to practice listening and speaking So audio lingual approach can be used very well B Task based teaching This approach not only stimulates the students interests in learning but also cultivates the ability of their co operation Students can make progress step by step It can help them taste the happiness of succeeding in learning English So I will design some suitable tasks to practice their listening speaking reading and writing 4 Teaching Aids A Pictures of different animals by using multi media It can excite and interest the students B The tape and tape recorder They are used to train their listening skills 5 Analysis of the learners The students have learnt the present tense They can use Do you like or Does she he like very well So it s easy for them to use the sentence structure We teachers only need to remind them of other and too 6 Teaching Arrangement and its rationality Step1 Warming up 5 minutes 1 Greet with the students and sing an English song about a dog called BINGO This can interest the students and make them more active What s more the students will revise two words dog and bingo 2 Show them some pictures and ask them to say the names of different animals Ask them if they like them and why This can revise animals and some adjectives and get ready for the new language learning in this period Step2 Leading in 5 minutes Show five pictures one by one teach them the new words ugly beautiful clever friendly and shy The pictures can help the students understand the adjectives directly and vividly Here we can use yes no questions to practice the new words Step3 Match 3 minutes Part 1 in the book is an exercise Match the picture with the description words first and then let the students make sentences one by one By doing this can make students understand and use the words better It is also an important task Step4 Reading 7 minutes In the book listening material is before reading But I think Part3 can be used to practice speaking at once If the children can speak first the listening material will get much easier So I put the reading text first In this part I ll give the children several tasks Task1 Look at the picture and talk about it What are these Are they clever Task2 Read the text carefully and answer the questions What does B like Why does B like them Do you like elephants Task3 Read the text loudly Ask the children to remember the target language Then show them another two pictures They will know to use the right sentences to talk about their favorite animals The design of the three tasks here is to help children understand and use the target language Meanwhile the students use the target language to finish the tasks That s the aim of the Task based language teaching method Step5 Practice and act 10 minutes In this step I ll let the students master the target language by practicing This is another task There are many ways to finish the task such as in groups in pairs boys to girls teacher to students First use the pictures that I offer then make their own conversations and act Out After acting get the students to vote for the best ones tell the class to learn from them Here we can achieve the emotional goals animals can be used to entertain people All of us should protect and treasure them Step6 Listen 7 minutes 1 2a is easy so I ll tell them some information about the conversation before listening Tony and Maria want to go to the zoo They ll see some animals Listen and circle the adjectives you hear The answers are clever ugly cute beautiful and shy Because of much practice this part should not be hard for them 2 minutes 2 2b is the most difficult part in this period So I put it in the end I will explain the chart with the headlines Animal Maria s Words and Tony s Words And then give them another task Fill in the chart after listening If they feel difficult I ll use the pause button or play it again 5 minutes 3 Check the answers Step7 Exercise 5 minutes 1 Revise the new words in this period 2 Revise the target language By doing the exercises students can make sure what they have learnt in class It will make them feel successful and be more interested in English Step8 Summary 1 minute Tell students what we have learnt
