英语学科教学设计 课题 Module 4 Unit 2 Sports Events The Olympic Games 课型 Reading Analysis of teaching material This unit mainly discusses the sports events the Olympic Games and the attitudes toward the matches This class is the first period of reading The passage The Olympic Games talks about the history and significance of the Olympic Games which is the main topic of this unit It is the foundation and core of this unit that is the most fundamental and important part According to the new Curriculum Criteria I decide to adopt Task based Learning The students will be given tasks to talk about the Olympic Games home and abroad and express their attitudes toward holding the Olympic Games In this way not only will the students learning motivation be greatly stimulated but also their communication skills will be effectively improved Meanwhile they will appreciate the Olympic spirits and hold a positive attitude towards these famous athletes mentioned in the passage The New Curriculum Reform also requires the student to obtain and analysis the information in English by summarization and reasoning It is a challenge for the students I decide to use charts to break through the difficult points in this period Just as the Constructivism suggests tables can clearly show the relation between the information and will make it easier for the students to understand the language points Teaching aims Knowledge aim Understanding the history and significance of the Olympic Games Ability aims 1 To improve students ability of getting information by task based reading 2 To summary the difference between ancient and modern Olympic Games in their own words 3 To master some useful vocabularies and phrases Emotional aims 1 Increase students awareness of the history and significance of the Olympic Games 2 Make the students proud of our Chinese Olympians Teaching important points 1 Help students improve the awareness of the Olympic Games 2 Students are to finish the related task based assignments so as to develop their ability to read and give a brief speech Teaching difficult points 1 How to get students to participate in the class activities actively 2 Try to help students present their ideas in the discussion Teaching methods 1 Task based activities 2 Question and answer activity 3 Free discussion method Teaching aidsThe blackboard the multi media and a tape recorder Teaching procedures 教师活动学生活动设计意图 Step 1 Warming Up 1 A guessing game How much do you know about the Olympics Present four questions related to the Olympic Games and ask the students to guess them out What do the five Olympic rings stand for What is the Olympic theme song Do you know the three words show the spirit of the Olympic Games Who are the former and the present president of IOC supported by ppt on p3 8 The students will be interested to guess out the answers about the Olympic Games To attract the students attention quickly and in coordination with the title of the text To stimulate the students learning interest and motivation 2 Show some pictures about the Beijing Olympic Games supported by ppt on p9 11 Step 2 Fast Reading Ask the students to skim the passage and answer the questions on p22 in part A Step 3 Careful reading Draw a chart on the blackboard titled The Structure of the Text ask the students to listen to the text carefully and find out paragraphs division with their general ideas supported by ppt on p16 18 Step 4 Detailed Reading 1 Part II Para2 4 Finish what the differences similarities between the ancient and the modern Olympic Games are 2 Part III Para 5 8 List the six famous athletes mentioned in the passage and ask students to complete the table in C1 on page24 of student s The students will try to be volunteers to say out the related information according to pictures shown The students will try to be volunteers and express themselves freely The students are motivated to skim the passage find out the needed information The students are required to listen to the tape scan the text and find out the main idea of each part The students will read in silence carefully underline the details and complete the chart The students will try to find out the detailed information about these athletes in the context To bring out the topic of this class To encourage the students to use the cooperative learning method To train students ability of fast reading To focus on the students reading ability to discover the key words summary the main idea of each part Using a chart can help to break through the difficult point The students will find it easier to do the task To enhance the students independent learning skills and book Extension What fine qualities do you think these athletes have in common 3 Part Para 9 Read paragraph9 and then find the speaker s wish Step 5 Consolidation Fill in the blanks with proper words according to the text supported by ppt on p40 Step 6 Discussion A Mini debate Hold a debate What are the advantages and disadvantages of holding the 2008 Olympic Games Divide the class into two groups One is for the idea and the other is against it Each reason makes one score The group which gets more scores will win When the debate begins write down their opinions Present the two groups of supporting details of the debate Conclusion Emphasis on the idea that not everything is perfect and holding a Olympic Games is no exception The students are encouraged to work hard and struggle for their better future The students are required to review the usage of wish The students will first discuss it in groups and write down their own opinions Then they will try to be volunteers and give their ideas comprehensive skills To inspire the students appreciate these athletes spirit To offer the students a chance to consolidate the text To develop the students communication skills To encourage the students to use the cooperative learning method To make the class lively again To cultivate the students to hold a
