China She has about 170 000 people living on the 26 000 square kilometer land For most of her history she belonged to Great Britain and was called British Honduras About 20 years ago she changed her name back to her dear old name of Belize In 1981 she gained full independence She lies on the north of all the countries in Central America just south of Mexico and east of Guatemala She looks out on the Caribbean Sea Her land stretches for 80 kilometers from eastern coast to the mountainous border with Guatemala in the west Belize s geography is a mixture of mountains rivers and sea Some of her land is rich and some poor Her people consist of Mays Indian black Africans Asians Europeans and Americans Besides their native language all Belizeans speak English Belize has a fine education system She is well known for her people s high literacy rate All the children are required to finish primary schools Belize is a peaceful country The present government encourages a mixed economy and support private enterprises and sees to the social health and education needs of the people Questions 16 to 18 are based on the passage you have just heard 16 Where is Belize located A She lies on the north of all the countries in Central America just south of Mexico and east of Guatemala 17 What do you know about the education in Belize B She is well known for her people s high literacy rate 与答案 B 同义 18 Which of the following is true according to the passage B 综合推断题 从文中的一些细节 belonged to Great Britain In 1981 she gained full independence 便可推断出 B 为正确答案 Passage Two In our society children s large purchasing power is drawing more and more attention Behind their pocket money there is a huge market Manufacturers are happy to find it advertisement agencies begin to research their language and films are made for them As a massive consuming body children are mad about keeping up with the Joneses Most of them have their own bank account at the age of 10 How can we account for this What s the root of their purchasing power The No 1 reason lies in parental weakness The parents mostly adopt a permissive way of bringing up their children more tolerant and with less discipline Therefore the children are able to choose what they want more freely The second reason is that in our society divorce rate keeps rising The less quality time a parent spends with their children the more guilty he or she will feel and the more pocket money the kids will get The third reason most mothers now choose to work and when they are back from work they are nearly exhausted so they will easily give in to their children s demands Maybe it s no big problem but if it goes too far negative effects will follow The children s consuming habits will later make them demanding guys unwilling to compromise They will make up a selfish and a materialistic race Questions 19 to 21 are based on the passage you have just heard 19 How does the speaker feel about children s purchasing power D D 20 According to the passage who are happy about children s purchasing power A 细节题 Manufacturers are happy to find it advertisement agencies begin to research their language A 21 Why are some parents guilt ridden A A Passage Three William Shakespeare was christened in the market town of Stratford on Avon Warwickshire on April 26th 1564 traditionally his actual birthday was three days earlier on St George s day the same day as his death fifty two years later His father John was a respected middle class trader and his mother Mary Arden came from a family of local landowners It seems probable that young William received a fair education at the local Grammar School at the age of eighteen he married a girl eight years older than himself Anne Hathaway who gave him a child the following year and twins in 1585 Little else is known of his early life and so we cannot tell what made him decide to leave Stratford in 1586 for London where he stayed until 1611 In London he must soon have attracted attention because by 1592 he was a writer and actor popular enough to be laughed at by an older dramatist as an uneducated Jack of all trades He is mentioned as being among the principal actors of the city as early as 1598 and in 1599 we find that he is a member of the company running the Globe Theater with one tenth interest in the profits showing a business sense rarely seen in his fellow writers His popularity is indicated by the fact that not only were his own plays published under his name which was a rare procedure in his day but also plays by others are to be found attributed to him as if to indicate that his name alone would promise a good sale Questions 22 to 25 are based on the passage you have just heard 22 When did William Shakespeare die D D 23 When did Shakespeare and his wife have their first child A 细节题 根据文中的 at the age of eighteen he married a girl eight years older than himself Anne Hathaway who gave him a child the following year 得知他们于 1582 年结婚 次年得子 答案应是 A 本题和上一题都考查了学生对年份日期 的捕捉能力 24 Which one can you infer from the passage C 推断题 本题可用排除法 根据文章的前半部分 得知大家对莎士比亚的 早期生活了解一些 排除 A 再根据文中的句子如 Little else is known of his early life In London he must soon have attracted attention because by 1592 he was a writer and actor popular enough 排除 B 和 D 确定答案是 C 25 Which of the following statements is true B 细节题 根据文中的 in 1599 we find that he is a member of the company running the Globe Theater with one tenth interest in the profits showing a business sense rarely seen in his fellow writers 判断得知答案是 B Section C Directions In this section you will hear a
