lifetime my first trip abroad alone without my parents I had organised everything myself and I would show them how independent I could be I had arranged to stay in a farmhouse outside a village in southern Italy My schedule said that the plane would arrived in Italy at five o clock in the afternoon and it was a thirty minute drive from the airport to the village I wanted to get to my destination before it got dark so I could have a drink watch the sunset and enjoy an evening meal The problems began at the airport My plane was three hours late taking off I walked around the airport looked in the shops and drank coffee in the cafes I didn t eat anything That was a mistake When the plane finally took off they gave me a cold tasteless meal which I could not eat We arrived in Italy I discovered the next problem The receptionist couldn t find my name in the computer and there were no more cars There were no buses or trains to the village and the taxis were in strike The receptionist felt sorry for me She phoned her brother Alessandro who agreed to take me to the village I waited for Alessandro at the front gate and he arrived driving a very old car with smoke pouring out of the engine We set off Fifteen minutes later we broke down I was tired and depressed and very very hungry I began to think my parents were right Maybe I was too young to travel on my own Luckily set close together on the front of your face The reasons are simple and important Your eyes are like two small cameras A camera catches an image of an object and records it on film Similarly when you look at something each eye takes in what it sees and sends this image to the back of the eyeball Because your eyes are set close together they see the world from about the same height but from a little different angles While your right eye sees an object a little to the right your left eye sees the same object a bit to the left Working as a team the eyes send the images to your brain then your brain put them together and you see a single image in the center Seeing in stereo 立体 means seeing with two eyes working tighter which is called stereoscopic sight This allows you to see the world in 3D Seeing depth helps you to judge how far it is between you and the objects you see and then adjust to the changing angle so that you can see something clearly when you move closer or farther away If images are coming from a single eye however only height and width can be perceived So if you see with one eye you will get a 2D image as in a photograph Now consider why your two eyes are on the front of your face Think of other animals just like you They are all hunting animals like lions and tigers This provides a field of sight about 180 degree wide which is called binocular sight On the other hand animals that are hunted have eyes on the sides of the head which provides nearly 360 degree field of sight However they don t have stereoscopic sight It is difficult for them to judge how far a danger is With both stereoscopic and binocular sight humans and hunting animals share the ability to see from side to side and to judge how far it is from other objects If you think it would be great to have another kind of sight perhaps with hundreds of tiny eyes like many insects do think again Each tiny insect eye sees only a tiny part Besides what if you needed glasses Be glad for the eyesight that you have 1 In Paragraph 2 the writer wants to A tell us how our two eyes works B show the importance of eyes 第 5 页 共 10 页 C compare our eyes with cameras D suggest using two eyes properly 2 The underlined word perceived in Paragraph 3 means A set B taken C seen D made 3 Which of the following statement is TRUE A Your right and left eyes gain the same image when looking at the same object B 2D images can always show depth height and width C Animals that are hunted usually see the world through stereoscopic sight D Fish with eyes on the sides of their heads have nearly 360 degree field of sight 4 In the last paragraph the writer thinks that seeing in stereo A is similar to the way a camera works B is an ability humans are lucky to have C would be better for a wilder field of sight D helps people to have better sight than animals 5 What is probably the best title for this passage A Seeing in stereo B Protecting your eyes C Treasuring your eyes D Seeing with eyes 第
