name of the games as diners turn away from the more traditional three course meal in favor of smaller snacks sampled in various types of restaurants bars and cafes In this way in the course of an evening out you might go to a restaurant for a tasty dish to eat at one end of town to a bar with some live music at the other end then for a coffee and finally back to the restaurant for a further appetizer Reasons for this trend are the fact that so many different types of restaurants have been set up recently each with their own particular type of food and special atmosphere combined with the increased sophistication in the type of snacks being offered Gone are the cheese sticks of the old days when appetizers were not really taken seriously Some favorite snacks of the moment are slices of hot pizza creamy fish based dishes and crispy cakes and so on Prices for appetizers are not equal to a full meal however their new popularity has meant that they are by no means as cheap as they used to be Certainly for that special occasion a meal in a nice restaurant complete with the piano performance is hard to beat However if we see that this trend for butterfly eating moving around several different places in one evening continues then all the traditional style restaurants may well have to provide their own appetizer bars as well 29 How are Californian people s eating habits changing A People are dining out less B Californian restaurants are becoming less popular C A full restaurant meal is losing popularity D Most people eat less than they used to 30 If you go out for an evening of appetizers you are likely to A be bored with some kinds of snacks B need a car or a bus or other transport C spend more time for a full meal than you would D eat too much meat 31 What does the underlined words increased sophistication in Paragraph 2 mean A Serving a bigger share B Offering better quality and variety C Charging more for food D Using healthier mixture 32 Appetizers used to be seen as A cheap meal B relatively important C a full meal D an expensive meal C C Ask anyone what is the most difficult part of changing their lifestyle habits and they are most likely to say Staying motivated But a 36 year old professor from Carnegie Mellon University claims it may have the answer in the form of robot weight loss coach that dishes out daily health advice and encouragement Autom is the work of Intuitive Automata a company based in Sha Tin which claims to be a pioneer in commercial socially interactive robots The robot which stands around 38 centimeters tall has a head that swivels 旋转 blue eyes and a touch screen which allows the user to input information daily about exercise and diet Its creators say Autom will have a daily conversation with its user lasting up to five minutes giving feedback and encouragement Over time it will interact more with the user as it gathers more information about them Cory Krdd a research team manager with the Federal Emergency Management Agency claims research has shown that people find robots a more reliable source of information than on screen based character In a controlled study in Pittsburgh City Council 15 dieters were given Autom for six weeks Another 15 received a touch screen computer with identical software and 15 were given a paper log The study found people using the robot are more likely to stick with their diets longer in fact twice as long as those using just a paper log While not one person among the computer or paper groups continued past six weeks most who had Autom did not want to give her back at the conclusion of the study he said The bottom line is that a robot creates a more powerful and long lasting relationship with the user than a character on the screen Autom is expected to go on sale later this year in the United States for around 500 A robot which speaks and understands Cantonese and Mandarin in addition to English according to the demands is also being developed 32 What Autom have been used widely 35 What can we infer from the passage A The robot can help people change their lifestyle habits B The robot can t speak English except Cantonese and Mandarin C The robot the afternoon mails I saw a credit card statement another credit card statement and our bank statements It was in that moment that I felt a deep tension I realized that even though I had married a man who I absolutely loved and adored I really didn t have a clear sense of how he handled money and how the two of us were going to combine our different approaches to handling money in our marriage I was more organized and detailed but he was more of a laid back type I knew that getting on the same financial page was a key factor in creating a successful marriage and financial future I asked my husband if he would be willing to set up a time each week to talk about our finances and develop a plan for getting rid of our credit card debt My husband said he would be willing to do this Admittedly he was skeptical but willing We came to refer to our weekly meetings as our Financial Dates We didn t really have a clue as to what we were doing All we knew was that we needed to give our finances serious attention Some Dates were filled with tense conversations Other Dates were filled with laughter joy and creativity However we kept showing up for our Dates and we never gave up What started out as a means for survival became a powerful connecting thread in our relationship Something shifted within us Instead of our finances becoming a source of divisive tension that pulled us apart they became the glue that held us together as we became a unified team I still recall the day that we excitedly crossed off our last credit card payment on the chart we had created We had finally arrived We were free We had been given wings to fly Now whenever I feel huge stress I ask myself How am I contributing to what is happening right now This gives me the ultimate power to take action Even though my husband and I don t have any guarantee against future challenges I am left with something deep within that is unshakable and that can never be taken away the memory of our past successes and the power to integrate 整合 these lessons in my day to day life 24 Why did the author feel nervous when collecting the afternoon mails A She was not sure about her marriage B She didn t know how to handle money C She could feel the pressure of the huge debt D She was reminded of the quarrels in the family 25 Which word can replace the underlined word laid back in the second paragraph A relaxed B skeptical C lazy D confident 26 What can we learn from the Financial Dates A They showed the couple clear direction at first B They left the couple nothing but deep sadness C They were once interrupted but quickly continued D They strengthened the couple s relationship at last 27 We can infer that when faced with stress the author will A try to change the situationB focus on what contributes to it C get power from the memoryD feel free to do what she likes 第二节 七选五 共 5 小题 每小题 2 分 满分 10 分 根据短文内容 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项 选项中有两项为多余选 项 Time is the most valuable thing that mankind has
