一 How to Introduce Yourself at a Job Interview First impressions count a great deal And the manner in which you introduce yourself in an interview will be remembered so much so that it might be the deal breaker Here are some tips for introducing yourself 1 Dress appropriately and be immaculately groomed These are things over which you do have control so make the most of them Since first impressions count introduce yourself with style before you even open your mouth 2 Walk into an interview confidently Avoid slouching slumping or crossing your body with your arms You are going in to win so look the part 3 Greet your interviewers immediately Offer your hand for a handshake make eye contact and smile Ask them how they are doing and make a polite response to their reply 4 Open your interview with a comment about being pleased to have the opportunity to be interviewed by the firm or organization Thank the interviewers for the opportunity This should be brief genuine and not flowery 5 When asked to sum up who you are be ready for such a question How would you describe yourself Write a list now and remove non job related qualities to arrive at your list for a job interview Craft this into a neat short reply that sums up who you truly are Many books about finding a career have lists of excellent words you can use to describe your attributes 6When asked questions at the start about why you want the job be prepared with an interesting and genuine statement This is one question you can definitely rehearse and put feeling into don t let it be a question that takes you by surprise 7Enjoy the rest of your interview If you ve made a good impression by this point the rest is simply about displaying your knowledge and your confidence level should be boosted 二 Introducing Yourself to Your Class Before a Presentation 1 Take it seriously So you have to give a presentation in school and your teacher has told you that you have to introduce yourself before you start Sure this may sound silly to you after all everyone in your class already knows who you are don t they but this is great practice for the professional world when you ll have to know how to introduce yourself to get ahead and get noticed So dress up nicely pay attention to your grooming and try to look like a professional If you re smirking wearing sneakers scratching your head or checking your phone everyone will see that you re not taking the presentation seriously And if you re not taking your own work seriously why should they 1 2 Say who you are This part is simple Simply state your first and last name and don t try to smile or act like your classmates should probably know who you are Pretend that you re addressing a group of strangers What kind of an impression do you want to make Just say something like Hello I m Sandra Smith or Good morning I m Joseph Jones If you have a cutesy and immature sounding nickname stick with your full name If you re unclear about your teacher s guidelines you can talk to her in advance Most teachers would want you to introduce yourself by first and last name but some who operate in a more casual environment would say that it s appropriate to only use your first name 1 3 Say what you re going to talk about After you ve said your own name just give your audience an idea of what your presentation will be about This should be no longer than one or two sentences unless your teachers expects more from you Once you say your name you can just say Today I m going to talk about the life and achievements of Martin Luther or I m going to discuss the importance of a constitutional republic This part depends on your teacher How much detail does she want you to give One or two sentences should be enough to kick off your presentation but if she wants you to give a more detailed description of your presentation then you can add a few more specific sentences to the end of your introduction 三 Introducing Yourself Before Giving a Speech 1 1Greet the audience and state your name If you re giving a speech it s important to state your first and last name even if you re only addressing a small audience that knows you well As you say hello and give your name remember to speak clearly and confidently Make sure your voice is loud enough for everyone to hear you Avoid mumbling by enunciating your consonants crisply Just say Good morning or How is everyone doing today 2Make eye contact with a few people Don t stare down or at some aimless point in the corner of the room Move your gaze around the group to make eye contact with a few people as you speak If you don t like the thought of looking into that many eyes look at their eyebrows or noses they won t be able to tell the difference 1 3 Maintain positive body language Stand up tall move your shoulders up instead of slouching and keep your hands free using them to gesture when necessary If you don t have to stand behind a podium then walk around to show the crowd how comfortable you are and to make yourself look less stiff Don t be afraid to smile from time to time It ll show that you re happy to be there 1 4 Share some relevant information about yourself The sort of information you share will depend on the audience and the subject you ll be talking about If you re giving a speech to run for the class president at your high school or university say one sentence that describes how you ve contributed to the changes at your school if you re giving a speech about the importance of eating organic foods tell people that you re a scientist chef or environmental professional Tell them what they need to know to have a better understanding of where you re coming from and why you have the authority to speak on this subject 1 5 Tell them what you re going to tell them If it s relevant to describe your speech before you begin then give your audience a sentence or two about what you re going to discuss You can say Today I m going to talk to you about deforestation If you re running for class president you can just say Today I m going to talk about why you should vote for me for student body president Just a sentence or two will orient your audience and will help them ease into your speech Before you start it s polite to thank your audience for being there 四 Introducing Yourself at a Networking Event 1 1Say your full name Obviously when you meet a new person at a networking event you should say your full name How else is the person supposed to remember you and develop a professional connection with you if all they know is that your name is Jim Just say Hi my name is Mark Smith or Hello I m Angela Grace and they ll be more likely to remember you If you re just playing soccer with a new group of people or meeting someone at a party then saying your first and last name can sound a little forced like you re trying too hard to make a professional connection at a social event 1 2 Repeat the name of the person you meet Repeating the name of a person you meet is useful in almost any social setting but using it in a networking event can go a long way in making the person feel important and like you re really listening and care about what he or she has to say Say the name of the person once when you first meet and once at the end This will not only make the person appreciate you more but it will also make you more likely to remember the person in the future Just say Hi Rita I m Angela Grace at the beginning of the introduction and say It was great to chat with you Rita or It was nice to meet you Rita at the end of the conversation 1 3 Use appropriate body language Your body language should communicate that you are confident and professional Stand with your head high and your back straight and walk slightly faster than you normally would to show that you re efficient and methodical Maintain eye contact when you meet a new person and give him or her a firm handshake that shows that you mean business without gripping the person s hand too tightly 1 Speak in a positive upbeat tone of voice that shows that you re happy with what you do 1 4 Give a one sentence description of what you do If you re at a networking event then it s likely that you ll be talking about what you do to a variety of people So what do you say when a new connection asks What is it that you do Do you launch into a ten minute story about your career path Do you reel off a list of your accomplishments in your field Absolutely not Unless you re having a more lengthy conversation you should be prepared to give a one sentence description of what you do that gives the following information Who are you professionally Are you a teacher a project manager or a health care professional Who do you work with Do you work with children cross cultural project teams or microfinance organizations What do you do Do you help second grade children develop their writing skills do you help cross cultural teams meet complete their goals while keeping their budgets or do you help microfinance organizations expand their market base in developing countries Now put your sentence together State who you are who you work with and what you do 5 Follow up with a question If the person has asked you what you do first don t just walk away and praise yourself for a job well done Instead ask the person what he or she does in return This is not only polite but shows that you have a real interest in this person s career path and want to build a meaningful connection 1 6 Say goodbye like a professional Don t just wave and say Nice meeting you and walk away from the person Anyone you meet at a networking event can have the potential to help you in the future so make sure that you make eye contact repeat the person s name and exchange business cards or any other pieces of relevant information before you walk away 五 Introducing Yourself to an Individual 1 1 Make eye contact Eye contact shows that you re engaged in the interaction as well as displaying confidence If you re not comfortable looking straight into someone s eyes stare at the point between their eyebrows they won t notice the difference 1 2 Smile It is important to keep a genuine bright smile when you meet a new person Your smile is your best icebreaker it draws people in 1 3 Offer a handshake A firm handshake once again demonstrates your self confidence Get the grip just right though you don t want break the other person s hand Try squeezing slightly with your fingers and not your thumb and release the handshake after two or three seconds 1 4 Exchange names If the introduction is formal say Hello I m first name last name If it s informal you can say Hi I m first name Immediately after you ve stated your name ask for the other person s name by saying And you are in a questioning tone When you learn the other person s name repeat it by saying It s a pleasur
