language in the world Many people in my country are hungry to learn English English can be heard in coffee shops and shopping malls in the capital Jakarta But outside of the city and the island of Bali learning English can be a struggle It is even more difficult for young people who come form poor families on far away islands And I m one of them Luckily I heard about the English Access MIcroscholarship Program an after school English class one year ago Known simply as Access it provides two years of free English classes to poor young people around the world One of the largest Access programs is in my country with about 1 000 students I was lucky enough to become a member of the program Now I can learn 4 English through its after school English class Earlier this year several American English teachers organized a series of English language summer camps across Indonesia I went to one of them At the camp we learned about American culture We also shred local songs and dances with the American teacher We had great fun More importantly I learned more about the Americans Before going to camp I always thought that the Americans were difficult to approach and that they believed they were superior 优越的 to others and they might have a negative opinion toward Muslims But through my camp experience I have learned that the Americans are just like us I have also learned that they are very friendly and easy going I really want to thank Access Without it I would have had no opportunity to learn English not mention knowing what I know about the Americans 25 In Paragraph 1 it can be inferred that the writer A is crazy about English cultures B lives a very cheerful and comfortable life C is a girl from a poor family in an Indonesia island D desires to learn American English like many people 26 What is the purpose of Access A To encourage young people to learn after school B To help young people learn English better at school C To help young people from poor families learn English D To encourage young people to know about the Americans 27 The writer thought tat the most important at the camp was A learning some English B learning about American culture C now C studies English for hours every day D likes dealing with the Americans C When he wrote The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Mark Twain turned to Hannibal The relationship between Hannibal and Twain began in November 1839 when Twain s father decided to leave the village in Florida and move east about 35 miles to the somewhat larger and more prosperous Hannibal on the banks of the Mississippi River Twain marked his fourth birthday about a week after the family settled there He showed little promise of becoming a long term resident However because his health was so poor that his parents probably feared he would not survive childhood During the family s first few years in Hannibal Twain was too young to understand fully the changes going on around him About the time the family moved into their new home Twain s health improved a lot Instead of having to lead a quiet indoor life he could roam the streets of Hannibal Climb the surrounding hills explore the area s caves and splash about in local 5 swimming holes He reveled in his newfound freedom spending nearly all his free time playing outdoors with the other boys in town and soon becoming a leader Twain s carefree days did not last long on March 24 1847 his father died For the next six years his brother Henry and his sister Pamela lived with their mother in the family home Twain began taking odd jobs after school to bring in extra money Within a year of his father s death he quit school and became an apprentice 学徒 printer and when his brother Orion bought the Hannibal Journal in 1851 Twain went to work for him as a printer and editorial assistant The stories he wrote for Orion s paper his first publications taught him that he much preferred writing to typesetting Thus when he decided to leave Hannibal in May 1853 he already had an idea of his future career 29 Why did little Mark Twain move and live in Hannibal A Because he wanted to live in a larger and more prosperous city B Because his father brought him there C Because he wanted to wrote his novels there D Because he wanted to become a long term resident of Hannibal 30 When did Mark Twain become first the earth s surface layer 层 was made up of huge blocks of hard solid rocks Then slowly there rocks broke up into smaller and smaller pieces Finally stones pebble 卵石 and grains of sand were formed Many sorts of plants and animals lived and died on the surface of the earth Their remains mixed up with the stones pebbles and formed soil The outmost layer of the earth is soil There are many ways in which large pieces of rock break into smaller ones Wind water heat and cold help to break up rocks When winds blow grains of sand against a large rock for a long time the softer layers of the rock are slowly worn away These leave holes and crack 裂缝 in the rock which become bigger and finally the rock breaks up into smaller pieces The moving water of streams and rivers also help to break up rocks As the water moves along it carries with it small pieces of rock These rub the larger ones Thus the larger rocks are worn down to smaller pieces The heat of the sun is also helpful to breaking up rocks When the sun shines the rocks become very hot If these rocks are suddenly cooled they may crack Ice also plays a part in making soil Water in the cracks can turn into ice in cold weather As this happens it becomes bigger and the cracks become wider and finally break into smaller pieces 32 According to the passage soil A forms very slowly 6 B is a mixture of stones pebbles and sand C make up the layers of the earth D is becoming smaller and smaller 33 Which of the following speeds up the breaks of rocks most A Hot weather B Cold water C Sharp changes in temperature D More dead plants
