a finger or move another part of the body to show what we want to say It is important to know the body language of every country or we may be misunderstood In the US people greet each other with a handshake in a formal introduction The handshake must be firm If the handshake is weak it is a sign of weakness or unfriendliness Friends may place a hand on the other s arm or shoulder Some people usually women greet a friend with a hug Space is important to Americans When two people talk to each other they usually stand about two and a half feet away and at an angle 角度 so they are not facing each other directly Americans get uncomfortable when a person stands too close They will move back to have their space If Americans touch another person by accident they say Pardon me or Excuse me Americans like to look at the other person in the eyes when they are talking If you don t do so it means you are bored hiding something or are not interested But when you stare at someone it is not polite 3 For Americans thumb up means yes very good or well done Thumbs down means the opposite To call a waiter raise one hand to head level or above To show you want the check make a movement with your hands as if you are signing a piece of paper It is all right to point at things but not at people with the hand and index finger 食指 Americans shake their index finger at children when they scold 30 What would be the best title for the passage A Michael Faraday a Great Scientist B The Contribution of Michael Faraday C Michael Faraday a Born Bookbinder D The Sufferings of Michael Faraday F I helped a friend in need last week I helped her by explaining something we don t learn in school but something we learn after years of experience When she came to see me my friend was visibly upset about having to ask for help I on the other hand was honored that such an intelligent young lady would ask me for my opinion and help Telling her how much I appreciated her confidence in me did not seem to make her feel better at all I was struck at the irony 讽刺 of the situation This lady is one of the most giving people I know She never hesitates to help others but clearly having to ask someone else to help her makes her very uncomfortable 8 Why Why is asking for help so difficult Why are we so gracious 亲切 和蔼的 about offering help to others but not about giving someone else the opportunity to help us I did a little soul searching after this experience and realized that most of my success has come from others helping me when I need it Sure being hardworking stubborn and occasionally smart has something to do with it but the fact is that I could not have made it this far without some serious help from others Today I am just as likely to ask for help as I am to give help Both make me feel good It s rewarding to help others and I want to grab every chance I can to do that And unlike in my younger days I am more at ease in asking for help I know it makes others feel good and I get new insight into whatever challenge I m struggling with I hope my friend continues to become more comfortable at asking for help and to give help every chance she gets 31 What do we know about the author s friend A She is quite self centered B She feels comfortable to ask for help C She always asks others for help D She is always ready to help others 32 The author probably owes his success partly to A others kind help B his good luck C his great parents D his being good at seizing opportunities 33 In his younger days the author A asked others for help often B didn t want to help others C was not willing to ask for help D felt at ease when asking for help 34 The author would agree that A one must learn to solve a problem independently B it s quite natural for us to ask others for help C we should ask for help only when it is necessary D it s difficult to get help from others 35 What would be the best title for the passage A Help People in Need B Smart People Ask for Help C Hard Work Leads to Success D Help Each Other as Much as You Can 第 2 节 七选五 共 5 小题 每小题 2 分 满分 10 分 将答案写在答题卷答题卷 39 40 相应位置上 Homework is a good thing It helps you practice what you ve learned during the day and establish study habits that will be important in college 36 What you need to do is take control of your homework
