广西平乐县2017高考英语阅读理解暑假编练阅读下列四篇短文,从每小题后所给的A,B,C或D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。Eating too much fatty food, exercising too little and smoking can raise your future risk of heart disease. But there is another factor that can cause your heart problems more immediately: the air you breathe. Previous studies have linked high exposure (暴露) to environmental pollution to an increased risk of heart problems, but two analyses now show that poor air quality can lead to heart attack or stroke (中风) within as little as a few hours after exposure. In one review of the research, scientists found that people exposed to high levels of pollutants (污染物) were up to 5% more likely to suffer a heart attack within days of exposure than those with lower exposure. A separate study of stroke patients showed that even air that the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers to be of “moderate” (良好) quality and relatively safe for our health can raise the risk of stroke as much as 34% within 12 to 14 hours of exposure. The authors of both studies stress that these risks are relatively small for healthy people and certainlymodest compared with other risk factors such as smoking and high blood pressure. However, it is important to be aware of these dangers because everyone is exposed to air pollution regardless of lifestyle choices. So stricter regulation by the EPA of pollutants may not only improve environmental air quality but could also become necessary to protect public health. 1. Audrey Zhang, a fifth-grader from Levittown, N.Y, is the winner of this years Doodle 4 Google contest, rising to the top of some 100, 000 entries on the theme of “draw one thing to make the world a better place.” Her piece, titled “Back to Mother Nature,” describes a detailed water-cleaning machine. okay.People are still going to like you. They may even respect you more because they know you are honest.Im not saying to say “no” to someone who really needs your help.Im talking about turning down that meeting that you really do not want to attend or that birthday party that you dont want to be a guest at.Think for a moment how you feel when you say “yes” to something that you really dont want to do.If youre like I once was,you cant sleep at night and you think about it too much.It weighs on your mind. You try to find ways out.Whatever youre saying to yourself,if you really wanted to go,you wouldnt have all of these thoughts. So,why not just say “no” from the beginning?Maybe you feel like if you dont show up at the meeting (by the way,it is not one you must attend),your boss isnt going to like you or your coworkers wont respect you.Maybe you feel as if your mom,dad or sisters wont love you as much if you dont do everything for them what they ask every occasion. If these people are your true friends, family members,or a good boss, they will like or love you the same no matter what.People treat you the way you teach them to,and if youre someone who always says “yes”,then thats what theyre expecting. You need to do what is right for you.Of course we do have real obligations in life to fulfill, but we do not have to do everything others want us to do.【语篇解读】生活中,我们有义务完成应该做的事情,但是不必出于太多的顾虑,凡事惟命是从,要学会拒绝,学会说“不”。1Which of the following statements would the writer agree with?AWe should try to do what our friends ask us to do.BWe should help others in Internet while working as a researcher in America, said that the television was approaching its “iPod moment”In the same way that people now download their favorite music onto their iPod,he said that viewers would soon be downloading most favorite programs onto their computers.“85% of all videos we watch are prerecorded,so you can set your system to download them all the time,” said Mr Cerf, who is now the vice president of Google, the worlds largest search engine.“Youre still going to need live television for certain thingslike news, sporting events and emergenciesbut increasingly it is going to be almost like the iPod.”Although television on demand has not yet become a mainstream activity in the UK,the BBC,ITV and Channel 4 have all spent vast sums of money on technology which enables viewers to watch their favorite shows on their computers. But some critics (批评人士),including some Internet service providers, have warned that the Internet will collapse with millions of people downloading programs at the same time.Over the next four years,it is thought that the number of videos watched over the Internet will be four times as big as that.Broadband companies claim that the service will cause “traffic jams”,which will cost millions of pounds to get it to normal. But Mr Cerf dismissed the warnings as “scare thoughts”,saying that critics had predicted 20 years ago that the Net would collapse when people all around the world started to use it all together.“In the past 30 years its increased a million times. Were far from reaching the capacity,” he said,“Its an understandable worry when they see huge amounts of information being moved around online.”【语篇解读】随着网络技术的发展,传统的电视将有可能退出历史的舞台。1What would happen to television according to Vint Cerf?ATelevision would drought was responsible for the extinction of civilizations more than 3,000 years ago during the Bronze Age. The reason behind why the civilizations in and around modern-day Israel suddenly broke down more than 3,000 years ago has remained a mystery up until now. A new pollen study by Tel Aviv University researchers finally solved this Bronze Age mystery. Prof. Israel Finkelstein showed that owing to serious climate changes, the entire world of the Bronze Age crumbled in a short period of time. The discovery was made on the basis of a high-resolution analysis of pollen grains taken from sediments (沉淀物) beneath the Sea of Galilee and the western shore of the Dead Sea. Prof. Finkelstein received support from the European Research Council to conduct research aimed at reconstructing ancient Israel. Researchers of the part of the project that dealt with climate change extracted (提取) about 60 feet of samples of gray muddy sediment from the center of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel. They had to drill through 1,000 feet of water and into 65 feet of the lake bed and were able to recover
