Book4 Unit1 Women of AchievementWarming up & Reading Xing Hongjia No.8 Middle School Liuhe County Good morning, respected judges. Its my great honor to have the chance sharing my lesson with you. My content of this lesson is Senior English for China, Book 4 Unit1 Women of Achievement. My talk consists of the following parts: the analysis of the teaching material, teaching aims, teaching important points and difficult points, teaching methods and teaching procedures.I. The analysis of the teaching material From my understanding of the material, the lesson is the center of the units teaching and learning. The passage A Student of African Wildlife mainly talks about Jane Goodalls working experience in African forest. The lesson is the first period of the unit. The passage is the most important material, which extends the main topic Women of Achievement.II Teaching aims According to the combination of the new curriculum standards and the syllabus of high school English, after reading the teaching material and analyzing the rules of the students growing of mind, I think the teaching aims should be the following:i. Knowledge aimsa) The Ss can understand the content better.b) The Ss can scan for the needed information and grasp the details from the text.ii Ability aimsa) to develop the Ss abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing.b) to train the Ss abilities of self-learning and cooperation.iii. Moral aimsa) to help the Ss to know about the qualities a great woman should haveb) To help the Ss to set up a sense of protecting and respecting wildlife.III. Teaching important points and difficult pointsi. Important points a) Strengthening the sense of wildlife protection.b) Improving their reading skillsii. Difficult pointsa) How to improve their reading skills, such as skimming and scanning.b) How to get the correct information through the complicated sentences.IV. Teaching methods According to the analysis of the teaching material and the Ss actual situation, Ill use the following:i. Communicative language teaching Language is used for communication. Its learner-centered and emphasized communication and real-life situations.ii. Task-based language teaching Tasks are used to make the students clear about what they should learn and focus on. iii. Computer assisted language teaching Computer is a direct way to present the knowledge for the Ss. It makes the material attractive and helps the Ss understand the needed information better.V. Teaching proceduresStep I. Warming upi. Lead in I will use a famous Chinese saying Women can hold up half of the sky to lead the Ss to focus on women. Then remind Ss of the knowledge of those great women.ii. Guessing game We will do a guessing game according to the given descriptions, and let Ss guess Who is she?. By this activity, the Ss can remind themselves of the major achievements of some great women. Step II. Reading i.Pre-reading In order to help the Ss to get some information of Jane, Ill show them a short video which gives a brief introduction of Jane. It is used to arouse the Ss interest on Jane Goodall and her chimps.ii. Fast reading Ill give them 2 mins to finish reading the text with four simple questions.This activity is designed to make the students improve their abilities of scanning for the needed information while reading. iii. Careful reading During this period, well read the passage paragraph by paragraph, and finish the relative tasks prepared on the screen. The students activity is to discuss them in groups and find out the answers. The teaching aim is to train the Ss ability of grasping the detailed information from the text.iv. Post reading In this period, well do the true or false. Some sentences will be listed on the screen. The students should figure out the sentences true or not. The teaching aim is to check whether the Ss understand the text completely. The teaching method is a whole class activity -to have a competition between groups.Step III. Summary In this period, we will do a match work -connect the main idea with each paragraph. It is designed to train the Ss ability of summarizing the general idea of each paragraph. The teaching method is to make the students free to talk.Step IV. Moral educationi. A memery chellenge It is designed to promote the spirits of Jane Goodall. I will give them a short passage, and it contains some blue words which need reciting in only one minute. Later, Ill check them by a game, which is great fun.ii. Enjoy Jane Goodalls warm words with a piece of beautiful music. It will be helpful for the Ss to feel Jane spirits.Step V. Homework1. Surf the internet fo
