When my friend Maxie says “Have a nice day” with a smile, I know she sincerely cares about what happens to me. I feel loved and secure since another person cares about me and wishes me well.“Have a nice day. Next!” This version(说法) of the expression is spoken by a salesgirl at the supermarket who is rushing me and my groceries out the door. The words come out in the same tone(腔调)with a fixed procedure. They are spoken at me, not to me. Obviously, the concern for my day and everyone elses is the managements attempt to increase business.来源:Zxxk.ComThe expression is one of those behaviors that help people get along with each other. Sometimes it shows the end of a meeting. As soon as you hear it, you know the meeting is at an end. Sometimes the expression saves us when we dont know what to say. “Oh, you just had a tooth out? Im terribly sorry, but have a nice day.”The expression can be pleasant. If a stranger says “Have a nice day” to you, you may find it heart-warming because someone you dont know has tried to be nice to you.Although the use of the expression is an insincere, meaningless social custom at times, there is nothing wrong with the sentence except that it is a little uninteresting. The salesgirl, the waitress, the teacher, and all the countless others who speak it without thinking may not really care about my day. But in a strange and comfortable way, its nice to know they care enough to pretend they care when they really dont care all that much. While the expression may not often be sincere, it is always spoken. The point is that people say it all the time when they like.56. How does the author understand Maxies words?A. Maxie shows her anxiety to the author.B. Maxie really wishes the author a good day.C. Maxie encourages the author to stay happy.D. Maxie really worries about the authors security.57. At an earlier period, our desire for material wealth may have been justified. Now, however, this desire for more than we need is causing serious problems. Even though we have good intentions, we may be producing too much, too fast. Those who criticize economic growth argue that we must slow down. They believe that society is approaching certain limits on growth. These include the fixed supply of natural resources, the possible negative effects of industry on the natural environment, and the continuing increase in the worlds population. As society reaches these limits, economic growth can no longer continue, and the quality of life will decrease.People who want more economic growth, on the other hand, argue that even at the present growth rate there are still many poor people in the world. These proponents of economic growth believe that only more growth can create the capital(资本)needed to improve the quality of life in the world. Furthermore, they argue that only continued growth can provide the financial(财政的,金融的) resources required to protect our natural surroundings from industrialization. This debate over the desirability of continued economic growth is of great importance to business and industry. If those who argue against economic growth are correct, the problem they mention cannot be ignored. To find a way to solve this, economists and the business community must pay attention to these problems and continue discussing them with one another.64. Now, thanks to scientists, the reality could be even cooler. Professor Babak Parviz of the University of Washington in the US and his team have created an electronic contact lens (隐形眼镜), which could allow you to watch TV and see electronic documents and e-mails directly on your eye, according to P on November 22. The new lens can be put onto your eyeball and removed just like a normal contact lens. It contains several components (部件), including an LED light, an electronic circuit (电路) and an antenna that picks up power and information through a wireless connection. In order not to block peoples normal field of vision, the researchers have kept all the components extremely tiny. Parviz is an expert at making parts on a nanoscale (纳米尺度) that are thousands of times thinner than a human hair. Apart from its size, another challenge facing researchers is that the human eye can only focus on things a few centimeters away or farther. Anything too close to our eyes will appear blurry. To solve this problem, Parviz used a thin, special lens called a “Fresnel lens” to magnify the display. So far, the lens has only one pixel (像素) and cannot show anything other than a dot. To display a short e-mail or text message would need hundreds of pixels at least. But the new invention has proven that it is possible to develop more complex information lenses. Researchers tested the lens in a rabbits eye and it did not appear to cause any he
