The students must make a real effort to improve his speed and his comprehension with each exercise. Too many students do not read passages actively, selectively and purposely. _21_ you want to improve, you must believe that you _22_ read faster and understand more, and _23_ you will.Reading, like everything else in life, is best done when you_24_(relax). Reading improvement takes discipline and effort. B A lot of people think that they are not good at learning a new language. However, experts say that we can all learn 29 the behavior of good language learners to become better at languages. Good language learners look for chances to hear and use the new language outside of the classroom on a daily basis and consequently (因此) learn the language more quickly. If theyre studying in a country 30 the language is spoken, this is easy to do. For instance, they can talk to sale clerks, join sports clubs, or even talk to people in coffee shops. 31 , if they are studying in a country where the language is not spoken, there are still ways to practice outside of class. They might read newspapers and magazines in that language, and watch movies. All of these are great opportunities to practice and can also be fun. In addition, good language learners try different ways to make their message understood, 32 example, if they do not know the word for Laundromat (自助洗衣店) they might say, “the place where you can wash clothes.” If that does not work, they might even try drawing a Laundromat with washers and dryers, or acting. The point is that good language learners are creative and do not easily give 33 . Because of this type of attitude, they learn more than those who get frustrated. Finally, good language learners are prepared to take risks. They understand that making mistakes is natural and necessary to learn. _34_ a result, instead of 35 (embarrass) by a mistake or getting frustrated when they do not understand, they regard it 36 gaining a learning opportunity. For example, if they do not understand what someone said the first time, they are not afraid to ask them to repeat itagain and again until they do understand. Or, if someone corrects their vocabulary or grammar, they try to remember the right forms instead of becoming shy about speaking.Vocabulary 9%Directions: Complete the following passage by using the words in the box. Researches show that aspects of the physical environment can 38 creativity. In 2007, Joan Meyers-levy at the University of Minnesota, reported that the height of a rooms ceiling affects how people think. Her research indicates that higher ceilings encourage people to think more freely, which may 39 them to make more abstract connections. Low ceilings, on the other hand, may inspire a more detailed outlook. In addition to ceiling height, the view 40 by a building may influence the kids ability to concentrate. Nancy Wells and her colleagues at Connell University found in their study that kids who experienced the greatest increase in greenness, as a result of a family move, got the best 41 on a standard test of attention. Studies show that students in classrooms with 42 views of at least 50 feet outside the window had higher scores on tests of vocabulary, language arts and maths than did students whose classrooms 43 roads and parking lots.Recent study on room lighting design suggests that dim light helps people to loosen up. It stressed that the government should find better ways to hold back talented students. On the other hand, “Top in exams” does not necessarily mean “Top in career”. So far none of the top students at college entrance exams had become a top Chinese expert or academic. The entrance exam is just one of the numerous exams a person will go through in his life and that cant foretell his future achievements. Some of them are just more adaptable to exam-oriented education than their peers.UNESCO figures show Chinese students comprise 14 percent of international students, the highest in the world. Their favourite destinations for higher studies are the US, Britain and Japan. Some experts said handsome scholarships, better job prospects and more opportunities to pursue further studies are the main attractions of foreign universities. The media fill pages and time slots with top students “success” stories to gain wider readership and viewership. High schools promote their former students proudly to attract new ones, and universities want to show their superior status by recruiting them. No doubt future reforms would do away with the score-oriented method so that students can be judged from all aspects. 64. All the above.(C)Mail carriers will be delivering some good news and some bad news this week. The bad news: Stamp prices are expected to rise 2 cents in May to 41 cents, the Postal Regulatory Commission announced yesterday. The good news: With the introduction of a “forever stamp,” it may be the last time Americans have to use annoying 2-or-3-cent stamps to make up postage differences.Beginning in May, people would be able to purchase the stamps in booklets of 20 at the regular rate of a first-class stamp. As the name implies, “forever stamps” will keep their first-class mailing value forever, even when the postage rate goes up.The new “forever stamp” is the United States Postal Services (USPS) answer to the complaints about frequent rate increases. The May increases will be the fifth in a decade. Postal rates have risen because of inflation (通货膨胀), competition from online bill paying, and the rising costs of employee benefits, including healthcare, says Mark Saunders, a spokesman for USPS.The USPS expects some financial gain from sales of the “forever stamp” and the savings from not printing as many 2-or-3-cent stamps. “Its not your grandfathers stamp,” says Mr. Saunders. “It could be your great-grandchildrens stamp.”Other countries, including Canada, England, and Finland use similar stamps.Don Schilling, who has collected stamps for 50 years, says hes interested in the publics reaction. “This is an entirely new class of stamps.” Mr. Schilling says. He adds that hell buy the stamps because he will be able to use them for a long period of time, not because they could make him rich the volume printed will be too large for collectors. “We wont be able to send our kids to college on these,” he says, laughing. The USPS board of governors has yet to accept the Postal Regulatory Commissions decision, but tends to follow its recommendations. No plans have been announced yet for the design of the stamps.68. The main purpose of introducing a “forever stamp” is _. A. to reduce the cost of printing 2-or-3-cent stamps B. to help save the consumers cost on first-class mailing C. to respond to the complaints about ris
