Unit 7 Teenagers should be allowed to choose their own clothes.Section A 3a-3c Mom Knows Best教材分析: 本单元核心话题为“规则”,以谈论允许做某事和同意或不同意做某事为交际功能,重点在设置的语境中学习和运用情态动词的被动语态。本课时为Section A第三课时,围绕一首诗歌Mom knows best展开。诗歌不仅呈现了新的词汇,再现了本单元要求学习和掌握的should be allowed to do sth.的句型,更重要的是,它通过描绘孩子成长过程中与母亲的交流互动,利用细节的刻画引发读者的思考,潜移默化地对青少年进行情感教育,让学生学会理解父母对子女的关爱与教导。英语诗歌这一文体为学生第一次接触,在本单元中主要承载着复习关键句型,设置学习语境,进而开展该单元话题下的各项教学任务。诗歌体裁有其独特的特点,但对诗歌体裁的教学并非本单元的教学目标之一,加之本篇诗歌不具备传统意义上典型英语诗歌的特点,而是一首散文诗,且考虑到学生学情使用全英文或大量英语教授英语诗歌体裁非但效果不佳,且会影响本课时其他目标的达成。因而,在本课时的教学中,教师重点着眼于诗歌的内容,让其形式为内容服务,将本课型定位为本教材体系中传统的Section A 3a阅读课型。对诗歌特征的关注放在阅读过程中,让学生通过诗歌自身的韵律,如重读,升降调,停顿等,体会作者对母爱的感受及表达。学情分析: 在前两个课时的学习中,学生已对本单元的重点语法结构should be allowed to do sth. 有较好的掌握,能够较好地运用已学,谈论允许与不被允许做的事情,能自然流畅地表达自己的同意与不同意。因而,本课时的重点在于,让其在掌握新词汇并复习已学语法结构的同时,体会作者成长过程中与母亲的互动,反思自己与母亲相处的点点滴滴,让其学会理解父母对自身的关爱和教导。Teaching Aims:Knowledge:1. To master the new words in this period: tiny, cry, field, hug, lift, badly.2. To consolidate the sentence pattern: should be allowed to do sth. and be able to use it to express their ideas;Skill:1. To develop Ss basic skills of reading like predicting, skimming and scanning.2. To have a general idea of the rhythm of an English poem and its function. Emotion:To understand moms love and her way of love for us. The Main & Difficult PointsThe main points:1. To master the new words;2. To be able to use certain reading skills to fulfill the tasks.3. To understand the change of the writers feelings towards his moms love.The difficult point:To understand the changing feelings of the writer expressed in the poem and the reasons behind. Teaching procedure:Step 1 Warming up and Lead-in Ask the students questions, “Do you know that Thanksgiving Day is coming?” “who do you want to thank most on Thanksgiving Day?” and “why” to lead in the topic today: mom and moms love.Step 2 Pre-readingAsk the students to read the title and look at the picture in the book, and try to guess what the poem is about. Some new words will be presented here. Step 3 Reading Activity 1 Fast readingAsk Ss to read the poem quickly and find out what order the writer follows in writing this poem. Activity 2 Careful readingAsk the students to read the poem carefully and find out more about what the writer is trying to say about his mom in this poem. Some questions will be asked to help them better understand the poem.1. What did the mom do when the writer was a tiny baby and a small child?2. Why do you think the writer talked back to his mom when he was seven and nine years old?3. How did the writer feel when he was a teenager and his mom said “Please be back by ten”?4. After reading the whole poem, how do you think the writer feels about his mom?After the Ss discussion with their partners, some of them are free to share their ideas with the whole class. While the students are sharing their answers, the teacher is supposed to draw a mind-map to show the clue of the poem. And at the same time the writers feelings towards his moms love are displayed in the map through the interaction between the teacher and the Ss. Then, illustration of the poems title “Mom Knows Best” is made here. Some clues might be given to the Ss. For a ., the best is that .Step 4 Listen, read and enjoyActivity 1 Ask the students to listen quietly to the poem. Try to feel moms love and the writers regret in it and also pay attention to the rhythm of the poem. Activity 2 Ask the Students to read together with the tape. Suppose they were the writer, and they are telling their own stories.Activity 3 Invite some students to read the poem aloud. Step 5 Post-reading: write a poem Activity 1 Share with the Ss one poem written by the teacher.Activity 2 Ask students to write a poem themselves as a Thanksgiving Day gift for their moms.
