Teaching Design for Unit 7Will people have robots?By Zhu Jianghua From Yuyang No.3 Middle School of DangyangGood morning, ladies and gentlemen! My name is Zhu Jianghua. Im from Yuyang No.3 Middle School of Dangyang. Today Ill talk about the second period of Unit 7, Grade 8 in Go For It. The topic is “will people have robots?”.I divide the instruction into four parts as follows: Analysis of teaching material、Teaching methods、Teaching procedures and Summary. Part 1 Analysis of Teaching MaterialStatus and functionThe main topic of Unit 7 is “predictions”. In this unit, the Ss will learn to talk about many kinds of predictions and predict what will happen in the future? This is a topic that is related to their imagination and creation. So it can raise their learning interests and improve their spoken English.Teaching aims and demands1. Knowledge ObjectsIn this lesson, Ss should master the new words “prediction, future, pollution” etc. At the same time, they should know how to use future tense “will” to talk about predictions. Especially, they should know how to use properly the sentence structures “there will be more/less/fewer”to make predictions.2. Ability ObjectsIll mainly train the Ss listening and speaking abilities and develop the Ss abilities of communication by learning the useful structures.3. Moral ObjectsI think the Ss should learn how to work with others and help each other, how to express their own ideas during the communication.4. Teaching keys and DifficultiesAccording to the teaching aims, I think the focus of this lesson is the new expressions and help the Ss how to describe the future using “there will be” .The difficulty is to distinguish the use of “more” “less” “fewer”.Part 2 Teaching Method AnalysisTeaching Methods: 1) Tasked-Based language teaching method 2) “Learning by doing, learning by using” 3) Students-centered, people-orientedEmotion aims: 1) Enjoy the pleasure of communication 2) Improve interest of learning English 3) Enhance students self-confidence I think good teaching methods are the keys to success. In this lesson, I will use Task-Based language Teaching Method and Students-centered Teaching Method. In order to attract students attention, I will use multi-media and games. In order to improve their oral English , I must give them more chances to practice. That is “learning by doing, learning by using”. Part 3 Teaching ProceduresI designed 7 steps in this lesson. Step 1 Warming-up and leading in ( 3)At the beginning, I greet the Ss and talk freely. Then Ill ask the students to enjoy an English songwhatever will be will be. By doing this ,I lead in Todays Topic-Make predictions about the future. I think these activities can create a happy and friendly atmosphere.Step 2 Revision & Presentation ( 10)First, I show some pictures and key words on the screen to revise what they have learned in the last period. I ask: How will the world be different in 100 years?.Help them to describe .Then I design a competition. I divide all the class into four groups. The task is “which group can give us more predictions?” And then I show two groups of Chinese characters“人从众”“森林木”and ask: What will happen to the earth in the future ? l help them to answer: There will be more people There will be fewer trees. I present these words on the screen: many moremost few fewer-fewest In the same way, I show other pictures to present :muchmoremost littleless-least Finally, in order to remember the language points, I design a chant.In this step, one important thing is that I will guide my students to practice in many different kinds of ways such as chain-practice, wave-practice,chanting and so on. Step 3 Drill & Practice ( 4)I will show some pictures of cities and some key words on the screen. Then I ask: What will cities be like in the future? Ask them to discuss in groups and report like this:There will be more/fewer/lessIn this step ,I always encourage them to use different words and find out the best group.Step 4 Listening & speaking ( 7) This part includes 2a, 2b and 2c of the book. They mainly train students to get useful information from listening material and open their mouths to practice the grammar focus in this unit. During this period, Ill organize my students to discuss and summarize the usage of more,less,fewerStep 5 Role-play conversation ( 12) I will guide the ss to finish the following tasksTask1 teach new words by showing pictures such as environment ,planet, earth and so on.Task2 listen and answer :Who is reading a book? Whats it about?Task3 read carefully and answer the following questionsTask4 find and explain language points by themselves. Some guidance will be offered.Task5 practice in pairs and role-play conversationStep 6 Discussion in groups of four( 3 )Show a picture/video and ask ss to discuss: Our mother land is crying. What can we do to save the earth? Then report it to all the classThis activity can not only help them to work together but also can improve their abilities of solving problems.Step 7 Extensive work ( 5)Ill prepare some exercises about the language points. After the students finish, Ill ask some students to present the answers and explain the reasons to their classmates. Summary Firstly, Ill ask some students t
