Teaching Important points: Enable Ss to ask and answer about the New Years resolutions to learn and use the future tense with be going to.III. Teaching Difficult points: Enable Ss to make a survey to talk about their resolutions in groups.IV. Teaching Methods: Audio-visual and Audio-lingual Methods;Task-based Teaching Methods V.Teaching ProceduresStep 1 Warm-up and review1. Play a song “ Happy New Year”. Ss listen and sing along.2.T: A new year is coming. What are you going to do next year? Ss volunteer to talk about that, using the“be going to”.Eg:“ Im going to learn to play basketball.”The other Ss have to repeat what they hear like “He/She is going to learn to play basketball.”Step 2 Presentation (1a)1. Explain what a resolution is. T: Well, your plans for the new year sound interesting. And the plans you make for yourselves on New Years day are called New Years Resolutions. Write this expressions on the Bb and have Ss repeat the word.2. Guess what the teachers New Years resolutions are.Present some pictures on the screen, let Ss guess what resolutions the teacher have for the coming year.3. Then Ss match the pictures with the phrases about New Years resolutions.Check the answers by asking and answering Step 3: Pair work (1b)Here is a task for Ss to talk about their own New Years resolutions. 1. First Ss write down their own New years resolutions and then Have Ss work in pairs and discuss what they are going to do next year. 2. Then ask some pairs to present their talk to the class.Heres an example A: what are you going to do next year? B:I am going to learn to take guitar lessons. I really love music. A:Sounds interesting.And Im going to learn another foreign language.Step 4. Listening practice (1c & 1d)1.Pre-listening:Present the picture in 1d and ask“These are Larry, Kim and Mike, What are they doing?(Ss: They are talking.) Ask Ss to predict what they may talk about?2.While - listening:With this question “What are they talking about?”, have Ss listen to the recording for the first time and check the answer.(Theyre talking about their New Years resolutions.)Then ask “What are they going to do next year?”Ss listen again and work on 1c, circle the resolutions they hear in 1a.Check answers then.After that,Ask“How are Lucy, Kim and Mike going to make their resolutions work?” Ss listen one more time and complete the chart. 3. Post - listening:Check answers by asking individuals to answer. Then the whole class read aloud after the tape.Finally have Ss retell the resolutions of the 3 students, using the information in the chart for help.Step 5: Group work(1e)1. Ss work in groups of four. First write down how they are going to make they own New Years resolutions work.2. And then ask each other about the resolutions and take notes.3. Give a report to talk about the resolutions in the group.Step 6: Summary & Homework1.Ask Ss what they have learned and sum up all the target language.
