Unit 6 Im going to study computer science. Section AI. Teaching materialThis lesson is chosen from PEP English book of junior high school, the first semester of grade8, Unit 6. The main topic of this unit is about life goals. After students finish this lesson, they can use the basic structure of simple future tense “be going to”. This lesson is about listening and speaking, it provides much listening and speaking practice. Such a topic is related to our daily life, its easy to raise learning interests and master the contents of the unit.II. Teaching aimsAccording to the idea of New Curriculum Standard in English, I set the following teaching aims.1, Knowledge aims: As to knowledge aims, students should master the key vocabulary: cook, doctor, engineer, violinist, driver, pilot They will be able to structures of simple future tense to communicate with others about future intentions , such as: What do you want to be when you grow up? How are you going to do that? 2, Ability aims: After this class, students can foster the ability of getting useful information from listening material. And they will improve their speaking ability by talking about dreams and future intentions.3, Emotional aims: I will enable the students to have their own life goals and instruct them to have positive attitude to make their dreams come true.III. Teaching key and difficult pointsBased on the teaching aims, here are the key points and difficult points.The key points are to master the usage of simple future tense by talking about the future intentions;The difficult points are to get the main idea of listening material, and get the useful information from material.IV. Teaching methodsAs for teaching method, Ill mainly use “Task-based teaching method”, “Communicative language teaching method”. During this lesson, students will have four tasks, in which they use the target language to communicate with each other about future intentions. And its good for students to improve their cooperative learning ability. V. Teaching ProceduresIn my teaching plan, dream will be the main line of the lesson which starts with a hit TV play and then students will be encouraged to talk about their dream jobs. And students will share what theyre going to do to achieve their dreams later. By doing so, students can understand their dreams may come true if they dont give up. I plan some activities which are linked to this main line to help students understand and use the language better. And I will finish this lesson in the following six steps.Step 1: Lead-in At the beginning of the class, Ill use several characters in the hit TV series Ode to Joy to lead in the topic about dreams. For example: Qu Xiaoxiao, a second generation rich, wants to be a successful businessperson and inherit the company from her father. And Guan Juer, an office clerk and a well-behaved girl, wants to get a good job. The five girls all have their own dreams and they work hard to achieve their dreams. Intention : Such a hit TV series is used to lead in the topic about dreams. And students attention will be attracted. Step 2: Presentation Ill use a photo of a little boy who loves playing basketball and wants to be a basketball player to lead in the words about professions. First, students will review the words about jobs theyve learned. Then they will learn new the words with the help these pictures. And I will give them several minutes to remember the new words.In order to check whether they can grasp the new words, I design a memory games- Who has the best memory. Students will watch a short video and they should remember the words about jobs in the video while watching. After watching, they will have a competition and find who has the best memory in our class. Intention : Learning new words in this way will raise students learning interest. And students will be attracted to take part in the class activities. After the game, students will rank the jobs in Activity 1a. Then Ill invite some students to say which job they think is the most interesting , and which is the least interesting. I will let student understand each kind of job plays a role in our life and they are all important to us.Step 3:Practice ( Listening & Speaking)Listening practice: Students will listen to the conversations in Activity 1b and get useful information to fill in the blanks. Then they will draw lines to match the items. This listening task is not difficult for students to finish. In order to give students more chances to improve their listening ability and let them acquire language from listening, Ill give them another listening task which is out of the text. Students will listen to the conversations again and answer the questions.Intention : By doing so, students can foster the ability of getting useful information from listening material and know the new structure and its the start of the language acquisition.Speaking practice: I will ask a student to answer me the following questions,What do you want to be when you grow up?How are you going to do that? / How are you going to become a/anAnd I will write these questions on the blackboard while having the conversation.Next, students will work in pairs to drill the structures.Intention : Students turn the input into output and practice using the simple future tense “be going to”. The key and difficult points will be shown completely in this step . Whats more, most of my blackboard writing will be finished in this procedure.Speaking practice: In order to let students better use simple future tense be going to, I design a guessing game. On the card I give them before class, students will write down their names, dream jobs and what they are going to do to make their dreams come true. Then they will put their dream cards into the dream box. A student will come to the front and pick up a card from the box and tell the class whose dream card it is, the others will guess what the dream job is by asking with general questions, such as: Is he/she going to became a doctor? Intention : Students practice using the third person forms of “be going to ”get ready for the writing practice .Their dream cards will be used later.Step 4: ConsolidationDuring this step, Ill tell students to take our class room as a Dream Hall and students will be divided into group of four to have a talk show talking about their dreams and future intentions. They will have several minutes to prepare.Then, Ill invite several groups to act out their talk shows. At the same time, There will be a task for the rest of class. They will watch the talk show as a reporter and take notes to write a report. Intention : By doing so, all students will take part in the activity. Its also good for them to consolidate the language. Students will learn from controlled practice to the open practice and they can further use what theyve learned to improve their speaking ability and writing ability. And students cooperative learning ability will be developed.Step 5: Summary After all above activities, Ill sum up the sentence structures on the blackboard which we can use to talk about the future intenti
