人教2011课标版新目标英语八年级下册Unit 5 What were you doing when the rainstorm came ?Section A 1a1c教学设计兴国第七中学 黄红梅I.Teaching material:This lesson is the first period of Unit 5 from the studentsbook of Go For It for Grade 8.The topic of this unit is talking about things happened at a certain time in the past.In this lesson,students need to learn a new tense-the past progressive tense was/were + v.ing and use the tense to describe the past things. While they have learned the present progressive tense before, I think it may not so difficult to grasp and use the past progressive tense.II. Teaching goals:1.Knowledge goals:a).words and phrases: rainstorm, suddenly, alarm, strange, report, go off,at the time of the rainstorm, pick up, at the bus stop, walk homeb).sentences patterns: 1) What was he doing when the rainstorm came? He was reading in the library. 2) I was in the kitchen helping my mom.2.Ability goals: To grasp the past progressive tense and use it to describe the past events happened at a certain time.3.Emotional goals: Encourage the students to better understand each other by asking and caring about each other.II.Teaching key points and difficulties:1the key pointsa) Make sure the students know how to read and use the new words and phrases.b) Learn the past progressive tense: were/was + v.ing.2the difficult pointsEnable the students to use the tense properly and correctly.III.Teaching methods: Communicative teaching method, Pair work,group workIV.Teaching aids:Textbook, tape recorder, multimedia teaching tools ( ppt ,a short video)V、Teaching procedures:Step1 Greetings and lead-inT:Good morning,boys and girls!Ss:Good morning ,teacher!T:How are you today ?Ss:Were fine.T:This lesson,were learn Unit 5,Section A 1a-1c. (ppt1) Before our lesson,lets watch a short video what are you doing ? You may sing along with it . (ppt2)(after playing the video)T:What are they doing ?Ss:Theyre dancing and singing.T:Yeah,now Ill show you a picture. Whats she doing now?Ss:she is playing with a ball now. (ppt3)Design purpose:As the students have learned the present progressive tense,its better to lead in the new tense by reviewing it because there is something similar between the two tenses.Here I play a video for the students is to want to wake more of their interest and attention . Step2 Presentation1.Present the past progressive tense with singular subject.T:Now lets find out what she was doing at this time yesterday with the pictures.At 9:00am yesterday, she was playing with a ball . (ppt3) From 12:00-13:00 yesterday,what was she doing ? (ppt4) Ss:She was having lunch from 12:00-13:00 yesterday.T:What was she doing at this time yesterday? Hands up please . (ppt5)Sx:She was drinking juice at this time yesterday. T: Very good, sit down please.Design purpose: After reviewing the present progressive tense , Ill change the time of the first picture and ask in the past progressive tense, and then present the progressive in different time phrases to let the students know about the new tense and understand the differences between the two tenses. 2. Pair workT:Now i want to know about your yesterday activities .Ask and answer with your partner, what were you doing at this time yesterday? (ppt6) (after 2 minutes asking )T:Ok now? Ill have some pairs to act out your dialogues. Which pairs want to try?This row please .Ask one by one .Sl:What were you doing at this time yesterday?Sq:I was doing my homework. T:Great,sit down. Next pair.Sl:What were you doing at this time yesterday?Sz:I was cleaning my room.T:Good job.sit down please.(.let the Ss ask and answer to practice the tense using the pattern as much as possible. After the two rows acting out the dialogues,find two Ss who did the same thing and ask the class.) T:What were Liu and Zhang doing at this time yesterday?Ss:They were playing ball.Design purpose:In this pair-work, I just want the students have a chance to grasp and use the tense with singular subject freely.3.Present the past progressive tense with plural subject.T:Youre so clever. Lets be back to the screen.What were they doing at this time yesterday ? (ppt7) Ss:They were taking photos.T:Great. What were they doing at that time ? Answer me together. (ppt8)Ss:They were going to school.T:The last picture, what were they doing when I went shopping ? (ppt9)Ss:They were playing games.Design purpose:In this link,Ill present the tense with plural subject by showing out the pictures with different time phrases.4. Summary of the past progressive tense.T:Now lets read the four sentences together. (ppt10)1) I was walking home. 2 ) She was drinking juice.3) We were having class. 4)They were playing games.T:Do these sentences have anything in common ?Ss:yes.T:They are in the same tense.We call itthe past progressive tense. Can you help me fill in the blanks?I/he/she/it/n.单数+ + 。We/you/they/n.复数+ + 。T:In this link, ill give you one score each time you give me a right answer. Who want to have a try?T:Xie Baoyi, you please.Sx: I/he/she/it/n.单数+ was + doing 。T:Wonderful answer. Sit down .Another two blanks,any volunteer? Wen Youlin,please.Sw: We/you/they/n.复数+ were + doing 。T:Great job. Can you guess when should we use this tense. Think about it please.(after 2 minutes)T:Can anyone give me any time examples? Szh:at 9:00am yesterday.T:Good job. Anyone else ?Sw: at this time yesterday.(.let the Ss remember the time symbols of this tense in this way.then show out the time symbols and read the time together .Remind them to use “was/were doing” when seeing these time.)Design purpose:I want to help the students have a whole knowledge of the new tense by summarizing the grammar themselves,from the structures to the time symbols.Theyre all the most important to the tense. 5. Practise the tense with the picture. ask and answer what the people doing at 3:00pm last Saturday ? (ppt11)(give the Ss 3 minutes to prepare and then let them act out .Those who act out the dialogs will get one score for their group.)Design purpose:Practice the tense with different subjects by the picture.6. Present 1a (ppt12) T:There was a rainstorm yesterday,Lets see where were the four people at the time of the rainstorm?T:Where was the girl at the time of the rainstorm in the first picture?Ss:She was at home.Then lead the Ss say out where the other three was and help them match the sentences with the pictures in 1a.Design purpose:1a is a preparation for the listening task in 1b.7.Present the listening task 1b (ppt13)Look at these activities,read them together. Now lets listen to the tape and circle out the correct one the four people doing when the rainstorm came .Listen once, and then check the answer by asking and answer:T:What was the girl doing at the time of the rainstorm?Ss:She was doing her homework.(check the other three by the above way) Design purpose:Listening task to help the students understand and use the tense in daily life, and to improve the listening skills.7. Post-listening (ppt14) T: look at the five statements ,Listen and circle T or F. (listen once and check the answers one by one. Those who hands up will get one score for their group)Design purpose:To improve the students skill of listening for details.Step3 Group workMake a survey in groups of four students ,ask each other what they were doing at 8:30 last night ? One students write down the answers and report to the class. (ppt15) (after 3 minutes , let the students say out the reports in front of the class ,they get 2 scores during this link each time.) They can report like this: In our group ,we were doing different thing at 8:30 last night. .Design purpose:To improve the students speaking and writing skills ,and to practice the new tense.Step4 Homework (ppt16)Write a r
