Sing the song Old Macdonald has a farm together; and tell the students that they are going to read a story on the farm.T: Good morning, boys and girls. Ss: Good morning, Miss Zhan.T: Can you sing the song Old Macdonald has a farm?Ss: Yes.T: Very good. Lets sing it together.Ss: (sing the song)T: You sing it very well. Old Macdonald has a farm. Do you want to know whats happening on the farm?Ss: Yes.T: OK. Now we are going to read a story about the farm.While-task proceduresActivity 1 Tell a story “On the farm”. Elicit the wh-questions “whats this?” / “whats that?” and their common answer pattern “Its a ”T: “On the farm”. One day, little wolf comes to the farm. Little sheep is very happy. They play games on the farm. Activity 2 Have the students listen to the recording of the story and read it together. Make them familiar with the story and the wh-questions “whats this?” / “whats that?” and their common answer pattern “Its a ”T: Do you like the story?Ss: Yes.T: Good. Now read the story again.Ss :( Read the story “On the farm”)Activity 3 Have students play games with the animals on the farm. There are 3 levels in the game. Ask the students to play level l “Lets judge”.Level l Lets judgeHave students look at the pictures about the story and sentences with “this” and “that” and judge whether the use of the two words is right or wrong.T: Little wolf becomes their friends. They play games on the farm. Do you want to play with them?Ss: Yes.T: OK. Now lets play with them. There are 3 levels in the game. First, lets play level 1.Level l Lets judgeT: Look at the picture and judge whether the sentences are right or wrong. Picture 1: PeepPeepThis is a chick. (X )ThisThat Picture 2: Whats that? Its a duck. (X )thatthis Ss: Both of the two sentences are wrong. “This” in the first picture should be “that”, because the duck is relatively far from us.Activity 4 Have students play level 2 “Lets guess”.Level 2 Lets guessListen to the sounds of different animals on the farm and guess the animals by using the wh-questions “Whats this? / Whats that?”and their common answer pattern “Its a”A. Have students enjoy the chant on Students book page 47, and then ask them to chant. When they are chanting, they can make some body motions to make the chanting more vivid.The chant: Whats this? Its a chick (shows a chick with body motions)(Ask the students to follow the teacher to chant with body motions. Then have a chant competition between boys and girls.)B.
