Recently, two researchers, Jose Milan and Michele Tavella from the Federal Polytechnic school inLausanne, Switzerland, demonstrated(展示)a small robotic wheelchair directed by a persons thoughts. In the laboratory, Tavella operated the wheelchair just by thinking about moving his left or right hand.He could even talk as he watched the vehicle and guided it with his thoughts. Our brain has billions of nerve ceils. These send signals through the spinal cord(脊髓)to the musclesto give us the ability to move. But spinal cord injuries or other conditions can prevent these weak electrical signals from reaching the muscles, Tavella says. Our system allows disabled people to communicate with external world and also to control devices. The researchers designed a special cap for the user. This head cover picks up the signals from thescalp(头皮) and sends them to a computer. The computer interprets the signals and commands themotorized wheelchair. The wheelchair also has two cameras that identify objects in its path. They help the computer react to commands from the brain. Prof. Milan, the team leader, says scientists keep improving the computer software that interprets brain signals and turns them into simple commands. The practical possibilities that BCI technology offers todisabled people can be grouped in two categories: communication, and controlling devices. One exampleis this wheelchair. He says his team has set two goals. One is testing with real patients, so as to prove that this is atechnology they can benefit from. And the other is to guarantee that they can use the technology over long periods of time.1. BCI is a technology that can _.A. help to update computer systemsB. link the human brain with computersC. help the disabled to recoverD. control a persons thoughts2. How did Tavella operate the wheelchair in the laboratory?A. By controlling his muscles.B. By talking to the machine.C. By moving his hand. D. By using his mind3. Which of the following would be the best title for the text?A. Switzerland, the BCI Research CenterB. New Findings About How the Human Brain WorksC. BCI Could Mean More Freedom for the Disabled D. Robotic Vehicles Could Help to Cure Brain Injuries B(2011天津D)Blind imitation (模仿)is self-destruction. To those who do not recognize their unique worth, imitation appears attractive; to those who know their strength, imitation is unacceptable. In the early stages of skill or character development, imitation is helpful. When I first learned to cook, I used recipes (菜谱) and turned out some tasty dishes. But soon I grew bored. Why follow someone elses way of cooking when I could create my own? Imitating role models is like using training wheels on a childs bicycle; they help you get going, but once you find your own balance, you fly faster and farther without relying on them.In daily life, imitation can hurt us if we subconsciously (下意识地) hold poor role models. If, as a child, you observed people whose lives were bad, you may have accepted their fear and pain as normal and gone on to follow what they did. If you do not make strong choices for yourself, you will get the results of the weak choices of others. In the field of entertainment, our culture glorifies celebrities. Those stars look great on screen. But when they step off screen, their personal lives may be disastrous. If you are going to follow someone, focus on their talent, not their bad character or unacceptable behaviors.Blessed is the person willing to act on their sudden desire to create something unique. Think of the movies, books, teachers, and friends that have affected you most deeply. They touched you because their creations were motivated by inspiration, not desperation. The world is changed not by those who do what has been done before them, but by those who do what has been done inside them. Creative people have an endless resource of ideas. The problem a creator faces is not running out of material; it is what to do with the material knocking at the door of imagination.Study your role models, accept the gifts they have given, and leave behind what does not serve you. Then you can say, I stand on the shoulders of my ancestors tragedies and declare victory, and know that they are cheering me on. 1. Imitation proves useful when you _.A. know you are uniqueB. lose the balance of lifeC. begin to learn something newD. get tired of routine practice2. To avoid the bad result of imitation, we should_.A. forget daily fear and painB. choose the right exampleC. ask others for decisionsD. stay away from stars3. According to the author, the world moves on because of those who are _.A. desperate to influence others with their knowledgeB. ready to turn their original ideas into realityC. eager to discover what their ancestors didD. willing to accept others ideas4. The trouble a creator faces is _.A. the lack of strong motivationB. the absence of practical ideasC. how to search for more materialsD. how to use imagination creatively5. What is the authors purpose in writing this passage?A. To highlight the importance of creatively.B. To criticize the characters of role models.C. To compare imitation with creation.D. To explain the meaning of success. It is important to show your child how money is traded for the things he wants to have.If he wants to have a toy, give him the money and let him hand the money to the cashier (收银员). _72_ When your child grows a bit older and understands the basic function of money, you can start explaining more complex ways of using money.2. You can show your child how to make choices between different brands of a product so that you can save money. _75_ If he chooses the cheaper brand, allow him to make another purchase with the money saved. What do you hear?_1_Its similar to the music you listen to, but its not exactly the same. Thats because this music was especially designed to relax you, or to give you extra energy. Sometimes you dont even realize the music is playing, but you react to the music anyway.Quiet background music used to be called“elevator(电梯)music”because we often heard it in elevators. But lately we hear it in more and more places, and it has a new name“Muzak”. About one-third of the people in America listen to“Muzak”every day. The music plays for 15 minutes at a time, with short pauses in between. It is always more lively between ten and eleven in the morning, and between three and four in the afternoon, when people are more tired._2_.If you listen to Muzak carefully, you will probably recognize the names of many of the songs. Some musicians or songwriters dont want their
