None smiling person could be found in the paintings around the Middle Ages(中世纪), because people at that time thought happiness was something disrespectful(不敬的) to Jesus Christfor he had been in sadness for people. Even if you were happy, you could only smile before your family. So no one dared to draw happy faces into their work. However, Leonardo da Vinci didnt agree with it. He thought that people have the right to show their happiness to others, and smiling is the most beautiful facial expression. Being happy was not something bad! So, after he was asked by a furrier(皮货商)from Florence to draw a painting for the mans second wife, he invited some interesting people to go with him. When Mona Lisa was being painted, those happy people sat around her. Some were singing, some were playing musical instruments, others were telling jokes to her. All the time, she was in a very good mood. Although she was very shy, she still smiled.Maybe, modern people like you and me have seen a lot of smiling beauties. However, Mona Lisa is, and will be, a milestone in Humanism portraits(人文主义肖像画), because it is the first painting which gave people a warm feeling. We should respect da Vinci for his braveness and his belief“People are more important than God!”Give short answers to the following questions.1. In Middle Ages, people couldnt smile, did they? _ 2. Why did da Vinci think that people should be allowed to smile to others? _ 3. Who was Mona Lisa? _ 4. Why was Mona Lisa smiling during being painted? _ 5. Greenhouses are used to grow plants, especially in the winter. Greenhouses work by trapping heat from the sun. The glass panes(窗格) of the greenhouse let in light but keep heat from escaping. It keeps the plants warm enough to live in the winter. The Earths atmosphere(大气)is all around us. Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are much like the glass panes in a greenhouse. Sunlight enters the Earths atmosphere, passing through the blanket of greenhouse gases. As it reaches the Earth s surface, land, water, and biosphere(生物圈) take in the sunlight s energy. Some of the energy passes back into space, but the greenhouse gases trap most of it in the atmosphere. It makes our world warmer and warmer. The greenhouse effect is important. Without the greenhouse effect, the Earth would not be warm enough for humans to live. But if the greenhouse effect becomes stronger, it could make the Earth warmer than usual. It may cause problems for humans, plants, and animals.1. What do most greenhouses look like? _.2. What are greenhouses used for? _.3. How does a greenhouse warm enough for plants? _.4. Where does most of the energy go? _.5. What will happen if the greenhouse effect becomes stronger? _.6.
