Unit6 An old man tried to move the mountains.Section A 3a Reading Mao YujuanTeaching planI. Analysis of teaching material and students : This reading is from Unit Six of Go for it! (Book II B). The topic of this lesson is the Monkey King. The teaching goal of this lesson is to lead students to tell stories by using mind map. Besides, this reading material is totally new ( completely different from that in the old edition). II. Teaching goals:1. Skill goals:Speaking Students are able to tell a story. Reading Students are able to understand the main idea of the passage and find out the related information. Students are able to use skimming, scanning and mind map properly for different reading tasks. Writing Students are able to write a story. 2. Knowledge goals: Students are able to read, memorize and use the following words and phrases correctly: object, hide, tail, magic, stick, turninto. Students are able to use unless, sothat correctly.3. Emotion goals: Students enjoy group work and like to help each other. Students love traditional stories and learn something from them.4. Learning strategies: Students can use previous knowledge to predict what a text is about. Students can use proper reading strategies for different reading purposes.III、Teaching focus and difficult points:1. Teaching focus: Lead students to read and grasp the use of the following words and phrases: object, hide, tail, magic, stick, turninto. Lead students to grasp the use of unless, sothat. Lead students to grasp three reading strategies: skimming, scanning and mindmap.2. Difficult point:the use of unless, sothat.IV. Teaching procedure PurposeStep 1: Warm-up ( 2 minutes) Show a video about the Monkey King and ask two questions:1) Who roars the heaven(大闹天宫)?2) Which story is he from?Step 2: Vocabulary( 2 minutes) Show Ss pictures and new words and expressions, ask them to read and memorize:Step 3: Reading ( 16 minutes )1. Skimming ( 5 minutes ) 1)Ask students to skim the passage and match each paragraph with its main idea. 2. Careful reading( 11 minutes ) 1)Let students read the first paragraph and answer two questions: a. Which book is talked about? b. Who is the main character? Then ask the students the question Who is the Monkey King? Lead the students to find out the topic sentence of the first paragraph and try to recite the sentence. 2) Ask Ss to read the second paragraph and fill in the blanks. Then ask the students to answer the question What can he do? by using mindmap and try to recite it. 3) Ask Ss to read the third paragraph and answer the question: Why do children like the Monkey King?Step 5: Post- reading ( 22 minutes ) Task One: Retelling (4 minutes) Lead Ss to retell the main idea of this passage according to a mindmap.Task Two: Telling the story Hou Yi shoots the suns ( 3 minutes ) Ask the students to tell the story Hou Yi shoots the suns according to the mindmap. Step 5: Summary ( 1 minute ) Lead students to know: Whatever you do, you should try your best and never give up . Step 6: Homework ( 1 minute ) You should: 1) Try your best to retell the story of the Monkey King. 2)Try to write the story Hou Yi shoots the suns. 通过视频激发学生学习兴趣,设定本节课的情境。通过图片引导学生学习词汇。通过略读找寻每段大意,训练学生快速阅读并把握文章大意的能力。通过不同
