Unit 5 Section A (1a- 1c) 宁夏银川市永宁县第三中学 张立新一Teaching aims: Students will use the past tense statements and special questions to finish some tasks: They will also use the past tense time adverbial to make up dialogues freely :They can summarize the past continuous tense.1.Knowledge objective: Vocabulary: rainstormPhrases: in the library, on the street, in my house, at the bus stop, In the past tense time adverbial: at this time of the rainstorm, at this/that time yesterday, at this/that time, at +几点+ last night /星期,when sb did sth, while sb was/were doing sth.2.Ability aim : We develop effective learning methods for students, Students can use important sentences and phrases to talk with each other.3.Emotion aim : Let students like English activities, encourage students to exchange and cooperation.4.Learning strategies :Enable students to participate in classroom activities. Make students learn from other students in order to improve oral communication ability.5.Teaching methods : Situational learning method ; communicative leaning method ;method of induction.6.Student analysis: Students in Grade 8 have learned many vocabularies and grammars. They were interested in English.They have the abilities to cooperate, explore and learnindependently .Most students can take part in activities.二.Teaching important points: the past tense statements andspecial question ;in the past tense time adverbial.三.Teaching difficult points: Students have no more time to learn the difference of while and when +the subordinate clause.四Teaching stepsStep 1.Ask and answer.The teacher plays a screen and asks: A: What were they doing when it rained last Tuesday ? Then the teacher plays another scream and students answer: B: They were having an English class.The teacher plays a screen and asks: A: What were they doing when it lightninged .Then the teacher plays another screen and students answer: B: They were dancing.The teacher plays a screen and asks :A: What was he doing when it blew yesterday ,then the teacher plays another scream and students answer : B:He was reading.The teacher plays a screen and shows: the meaning of the rainstorm.Design intent : Students can understand the meaning of the rainstorm, and what were/was sb doing sth at the same time.Step 2. Presentation and making up the dialoguesThe teacher shows a picture and asks a question : What was he doing at the time of the rainstorm. Students answer : He was thinking(思考) at the time of the rainstorm。Then shows the meaning of the phrases: at the time of 在时候。After then asks students to use the sentence: What was he doing at the time of the rainstorm ? to prepare make up the dialogue. Notice: Let students change the verb.Design intent:let students learn to use the past continuous sentence and the phrase : at the time of the rainstorm.Step 3. Ask and answer .The teacher shows a picture and asks : A :Where was she ? Students answers: B: She was at home. The teacher asks: A: What was the girl doing at the time of the rainstorm? Students answers :B: She was writing at home at the time of the rainstorm.The teacher shows a picture and asks : A: Where was the boy ? Student answers: B: He was in the library. The teacher asks : A: What was he doing at the time of the rainstorm? Students answer :B : He was reading in the library at the time of the rainstorm.The teacher shows a picture and asks: A: Where was the woman ? Students answers: B: She was at the bus stop ;The teacher asks : A : What was she doing at the time of the rainstorm? Students answers : B: She was waiting for the bus at the bus stop at the time of the rainstorm.The teacher shows a picture and asks: A: Where was the man ? Students answer: B: He was on the street, The teacher asks :A: What was the man doing at the time of the rainstorm? Students answers: B: He was running on the street at the time of the rainstorm . Design intent: The teacher asks and students answer, check students if they have mastered above important sentences.Step 4:Match the sentences with the pictures First the teacher shows four pictures and read four sentences ,then asks students to match them. at last check the answers.Step 5.Listening and ticking The teacher shows four pictures and let students read them. Then teacher plays the tape, students listen and tick the correct responses. at last the teacher check the keys.Step 6 Presentation and practice . The teacher shows a picture and asks: What was she doing at this /that time yesterday ? Students answer : She was swimming (swim)at this /that time yesterday .After then shows the meaning of the phrases: at this /that time yesterday 昨天这个/那个时候。At last ask students to use the sentences : A : What was he/ she doing at that/this time yesterday? B: He/ She was doing sth + at that /this time + yesterday to make up the dialogues.Design intent: Students practice dialogues in order to master the phrase :at that/this time yesterday and important sentences : What +be +sb +doing 、. . The teacher shows a picture and asks: What were they doing at 4:30 last Monday ? Students answer :They were sweeping the floor at 4;30 last Monday. Then explains the phrases: at 4:30 last Monday 在上周一的4;30,After then asks students to use above special question to make up the dialogues.Design intent: Make students master the phrase: at +钟点+last +星期,and the past continuous tense.The teacher shows a picture and asks : What were they doing at 7:00 last night? Students answer: They were making dinner(Make dinner)at 7:00 last night. After then shows the meaning of at 7:00 last night晚上七点。At last use the sentence: What were they doing at 7:00 last night ? to make up the dialogues.Design intent: Make students master the phrase: at +钟点+last night, and the past continuous tense. .The teacher shows a picture and asks a question: What were they doing when the teacher came in ? Students answer: Theywere playing with mobile phone when the teacher came in. Afterthen the teacher explains: when +从句 (表示当什么时候)。At last translate eight Chinese sentences into English and asks students to write them on a paper. Everyone can choose one. a few minutes later check students keys.Design intent: Make students master the usage of“ when +sb did sth.”, and the past continuous tense. .The teacher shows two pictures and asks a question: What was she doing while her mother was washing the clothes? Students answer: She was playing the piano while her mother was washing them. Then shows two more pictures , use the same way to ask and answer: What were they doing while I was flying a kite ? They were climbing the hill while I was flying a kite. After then explains the sentence: while+ the subordinate clause表示正当什么时候。At last look at some pictures and asks students to make up the dialogues like this: What were her classmates doing while my sister was lying in the bad? Students answer like these: Lily was playing the piano while my sister was lying in the bed. Mike was dancing while my sister was lying in the bed. Tom was playing the basketball while my sister was lying in the bed. Jia Li was playing on the swing while my sister was lying in the bed ? Xiao Hua was drawing the picture while my sister was lying in the bed. Xiao Juan was eating the ice cream while my sister was lying in the bed. Xiao Liu was sleeping in the bed while my sister was lying in the bed. Lucy was reading while my sister was lying in the bed. Xiao Fang and Xiao Hong were singing while my sister was lying in the bed. Design intent: Make students master the usage of “ while + the subordinate clause”, and the past continuous tense. By writing sentences check students if they have mastered them really.Step 7.Fill in the blacks .What was your sister doing (do) at 9;00 yesterdayevening. .What were you doing(do) at this time yesterday? .I was shopping(shop) when I saw (see) the traffic accident yesterday. .I was listening(listen) to the music at 3:00 last Friday. .She was talking(talk) with her friends at this time yesterday. .His parents were making (make) dinner while he was sleeping (sleep) yesterday evening. .They were doing(do) their homework from 6:30 to 8:00 yesterday evening. Design intent: check students if they have mastered the past continuous tense. Step 9.Summary Lets sum up the past continue sentence. Fi
