English becomes too difficult for them to study. There are more words and phrases. They cant get enough confidence from English learning. But they still have strong curiosity. So we should use different kinds of teaching methods to motivate students interest of learning English.Part 3. The Teaching Methods 1. Teaching methods:As we all know, the main instructional aim of learning English in the Middle School is to cultivate students capabilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson Ill mainly use “Communicative” teaching method, “Audio-visual” teaching method, “Task-based” teaching method, “Brainstorm” teaching method and “Group” teaching method. 2. Teaching preparation: PPT and textbookPart 4. The learning methodsUse some pictures to let students study the key words and phrases independently. Encourage them to work in pairs and study from each other.Part 5. Teaching steps: Now I will mainly talk about teaching steps. I will follow 10 steps. Step 1 Greeting and Lead-in1. Greet the class as usual2. Lead-in Ask students “Do you have any problems in your daily life?” Most students may say “Yes”. Then ask them “What problems do you have?” Some students may say, “I have too much homework; I cant get enough sleep; I often argue with my sister.” Purpose of my designing: In this part, students can practice their speaking. And it can lead them into the main topic of this lesson. Step 2 Talking Show students some pictures about problems and let them talk “Whats wrong?” If they cant get the answers, I will give them more information. Purpose of my designing: Let them learn to express problems and try to use the new words and phrases.Step 3 Pair work Work in pairs to ask and answer “Do you think these problems are serious or not?” Purpose of my designing: Students can get a full knowledge of the new expressions, and prepare for the following listening.Step 4 Listening (1b): Listen and circle the problems you hear. Pay attention to the key words. Check the answers one by one. Purpose of my designing: Students can improve their capability of listening, and review the words and phrases.Step 5 Group work. (1C) Work in groups to make conversations like this: A: Whats wrong? B: I have too many after-school classes. A: Maybe you should talk to your parents.B: Thats a good idea. Ask four groups to show their conversations.Purpose of my designing: Students can cultivate their capability of group cooperation and practice the target language. .Step 6 BrainstormWeve learnt how to express problems. But when our friends or family are in trouble, what should we do? Look at this picture, if they were your friends, what advice can you give them? Students may talk a lot. “He should say sorry; he could write her a letter.” Let them talk if there are any other structures. I will conclude and introduce “Why dont you.? /Why not.?” to them. These structures can also be used to give others advice. Then practice giving others advice using these structures. And work in pairs to ask and answer about asking for suggestions and giving advice. Purpose of my designing: Through Brainstorm, students will be more active and think and talk a lot. It will develop their speaking capability. Besides, they can learn to give others advice in different ways.Step 7 Listening (2a-2b)1. Listen. Peters friend is giving him advice. Fill in the blanks with could and should. Check the answers one by one.2. Listen again. Why doesnt Peter like these advice? Write the letters next to the advice. Then check the answers one by one.Purpose of my designing: It can improve their listening capability and let them practice the usage of “could” and “should”. Step 8 Practice Tell students to make a conversation using the information in 2a and 2b. First let two pairs in Group B to act out the example conversation. e.g. A: Whats the matter, Peter? B: I had a fight with my best friend. What should I do? A: Well, you should call him so that you can say youre sorry. B: But I dont want to talk about it on the phone. Then students work in pairs to make their own conversations. Ask some pairs to show their conversations. Purpose of my designing: Students in different groups can get confidence from this part. Students can learn how to give others advice properly in the situation. Step 9 Summary In this class, weve learnt different structures to give suggestions to others. For example,You should/could +v. Why not/dont you +v.? Could you please (not) +v.? Then I add more to them:Youd better (not) +v. Would you mind doing? What about/How about + n./doing?Purpose of my designing: I give them three more similar structures weve learnt before so that they can remember them together. Step 10 Homework Group A: Write three conversations about your problems and your friends suggestions(at least 4 sentences). Group B: Copy 1c & 2c twice.Purpose of my designing: Group A is good at English. The homework is a good way to
