Teaching DesignThe Analysis of StudentsTo begin with, students in grade 8 have mastered many English words, so they can understand the passage basically by themselves. Next, they have a certain level of knowledge in reading classics, and Robinson Crusoe has been mentioned in Chinese book, so they have fewer barriers in this class. More importantly, grasping reading skills is a main important point in grade 8, thats why students must improve their reading ability. Teaching Aims1. Knowledge Aims(1) Learn some new words and expressions.(2) Master present perfect tense, and learn the past participle of verbs.2. Ability Aims(1) Improve students reading ability by introducing reading skills such as skimming and scanning. (2) Let students distinguish simple present tense, simple past tense and present perfect tense.3. Moral Aims(1) Learn to be independent, strong and perseverant by learning this passage.(2) Develop students divergent thinking by knowing the things that Robinson has done for survival on the island. The Important and Difficult Points 1. Understand the passage and know how to use present perfect tense.2. Improve students reading ability by mastering different reading strategies. Teaching ProcedureStep 1: Pre-reading 1. Lead in, show three pictures and then ask students questions:T: What are they?S: They are tools, fruit and vegetables and lights.T: These things are very important to our daily life, right? Let students think what they will do if they get lost on a remote island where there is not anything needed in peoples life such as food, light and human. Let them have a discussion.(Design idea: lay a foundation for introducing the topic of the passage, active class atmosphere and develop students divergent thinking.)2. After the discussion, tell students that there is a human who is as clever as them, and play an English video about him, then have a free talk.(1) Who is the man?(2) Which book is the story about?Then show a brief introduction of Robinson Crusoe, next, ask students retell the story in Chinese. (Design idea: raise students interest and show the topic of the passage, Robinson Crusoe.)Step 2: Skimming1. Task 1, finish 3a, read the passage based on Robinson Crusoe quickly, and answer the two questions. At the same time, play the tape in order to correct students pronunciation.(1) What does Robinson Crusoe wait for?(2) Why does Robinson Crusoe call the man Friday?(Design idea: improve students ability of filtering useful information by reading the passage quickly, improve students reading speed.)Step 3: Scanning1. The vocabulary is the foundation of understanding a passage.)2. Task 3, finish 3b, read the passage quickly again by scanning and find words that have the same meanings.(Design idea: test students understanding of new words in this class.)3. Task 4, finish 3c, read the passage carefully and correct the sentences.(Design idea: promote students comprehension of the passage and improve their reading ability.)4. Task 5, show six Chinese sentences and ask students to find out the English sentences in the passage. These sentences include present perfect tense. Next, let students say the different forms of the verbs: original form, past form and past participle.(Design idea: stress and consolidate the usage of present perfect tense, and remember different forms of verbs.) Step 4: LearningTask 6, read the passage again and discuss the questions that students dont understand in a group, then teacher interprets some points that they may make mistakes.(Design idea: while improve students reading skills, make students learn grammar better.)Step 5: ExpandingTask 7:Emotional education.
