Pre-reading activities for interestActivity 1. Have a free talk with students. Ask them the following questions: Talk about festivals:*Festivals are meant to celebrate important events.*Whats your favorite holiday of the year?*What festivals or celebrations do you enjoy in your city or town?*Do you like spending festivals with your family or with your friends?Activity 2. 1. Let students brainstorm the other Chinese festivals. (Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat festivals, Mid-Autumn festival, New Years Day, International Womens Day, International Childrens Day.) 2. Talk about some foreign festivals with students. (Christmas, April Fools Day, Halloween, Valentines Day, Thanksgiving Day.)Step 2. While-reading activities for comprehensionVocabulary: Ask students to read the words aloud which in bold in the passage. Step 3: ListeningStep 4:Post-reading for consolidation Have a discussion and Role-play Suppose one student is a reporter and the others in the group are foreigners from different countries, have a discussion about the festivals and act it out. Step 5: Group work and writing Festivals are created. Now you have got the chance to make a new festival. Discuss in groups and make a plan and write it down: 1. When the festival takes place?2. What the festival is for?3.
