Holly and Maria talk about their best friends. Why does Holly like Pete? S: Because they like to do the same things and Pete is good at sports.T: Why does Maria like Vera?S: Because she is a good listener and she keeps secrets.T: What do you like about your best friend? And tell me why.Ask volunteers to talk about their friends. Some students may say only one or two sentences, some may give a long talk. T: You did a good job. So you see, some friends like the same things, and some have different interests. Here is a question: Should friends be different or the same? Today, well get to know another three people. Lets see what they say about friends. Turn to page 35 please. Step II Reading (Section B: 3a)T: Have you marked all the new words?Ss: Yes.T: Good. Now read the passage and find answers to the questions on the board. You are given 3 minutes.Show the flowing questions on the board.Questions: 1. What kind of friend does James Green like?How is James the same as his best friend?Are there any differences between them?2. What kind of friend does Huang Lei like?Do they have some things in common?3. Does Mary Smith think friends should be different or the same? What is her best friend like?T: OK, time is up. Have you found answers to the questions? Any volunteer?S1: James likes to have friends who are like him.T: What does it mean?S1: That means his friends are the same as him.T: Quite right. “be like” means “be the same as”. Its different from “like” as verb. T: Next question?S2: They are both quiet.Other answers are omitted. T: Read the article aloud and underline all the words that describe what people are like.The words are: 1. quieter, smarter, more athletic2. taller, more outgoing, more athletic, quieter3. funny, more outgoingThen ask students to read the article again and find out the new words or something difficult for them.Discuss: Whose opinion do you agree with, James, Huang or Mary? Work in groups of four and talk about your view on friend and friendship. After discussion, ask several groups to present their opinions. Its not necessary to be the same. = To be the same is not necessary.4. both is the opposite of neitherall is the opposite of nonee.g. We are both in Class 1, Grade 2.We two both like sports. = Both of us like sports.Both Tina and Tara are Americans.4. though: conj. although 虽然,即使,纵然e.g. Though it was late, he went on working. = It was late, but he went on working.Though he is poor, he is happy. = He is poor, but he is happy.【注】有though连接的句子,不能再用but,但可用副词yet, nevertheless等。5. beat is different from winbeat sbwin (game, match, competition, race, etc.)e.g. He always beat me in tennis.Our team can win the next match.6. I dont really care. = I dont mind.Step III Writing (Section B: 3b, 3c)In this step, students will do some writing practice using the target language.Task 1: Look at the chart in activity 2a. Write about Holly, Maria, and their best friends. (5 minutes). A sample passage: Hollys best friend is Pete. He likes to do the same things as Holly does. Holly is quieter than Pete, Pete is funnier and more athletic. They are both pretty outgoing.Marias best friend is Vera. They look alike. Maria is more outgoing. But Vera is much quieter, and she is also smarter than Maria. Task 2: Write a small passage to compare you and your best friend. Read the article in activity 3a for reference.T: Have you finished? Please hand in your papers. Ill read some of your papers. Guess who wrote them. Collect students papers and pick out 3 to 5 samples.Read them out and let students guess who wrote them.A sample passage:I like to have friends who are like me. I am very funny and outgoing, my best friend Liu is as funny and outgoing as I am. We both like basketball. Im taller than he is, but hes more athletic. We both like telling jokes. We talk much every day.T: Guess who wrote it? Why?S1: I think Zhao wrote it. Because he likes basketball and telling jokes. S2: Yes, I wrote it.Step IV Pairwork (Section B: 4)Talk about the ad in activity 4 and decide which classmate is best for the job.Call attention to the ad.T: Which school needs a teacher?Ss: English Study Center. T: Who are the students?Ss: Primary school students. T: Do you know the meaning of primary school? Now you are junior secondary school students. Before you came here, you were primary school students. Clear? What should the teacher be like?Ss: He/She must have good grades.He/She must be outgoing.He/She must be good with children.He/She must enjoy telling jokes.T: Work in pairs and talk about which student in our class is best for the job. Give the reasons. Try to use the following structures: I think .In my opinion, .I dont agree. But .Ask three pairs to present their dialogues before the class. If time allows, ask more pairs to do the presentation. Step V Summary and HomeworkT: Today we did a lot of work to practice the target language. Im sure now you can describe personal traits and compare people well. We also read different peoples views on friends. Here Id like to share some quotes and proverbs about friend and friendship with you. Choose the one you like best. Rose or Ruth?句型:A动词形容词比较级thanB表示两者相比较,A比B更一些。 I am older than you. Mary is happier than Jane. His brother is younger than I(me). Beijing is more beautiful than Wuhan. My sister has longer hair than Tara. Her mother is thinner than her father. Jack is taller than Tom.注意 1)比较级可不带修饰语,但若表示程度或差别大小时,A 可用a little (a bit)修饰,表“更一点儿”。 e.g. Im a little taller than her. 我比她高一点儿。B 可用much, even, still, far, any, a lot修饰,表“更的多”。 e.g. This movie is much more interesting than that one. 这部电影比那部有趣多了。C 可用数词来修饰。e.g. Lily is two years older than me. Linda is one year younger than I am.丽丽比我大两岁,琳达比我小一岁。D 若用 “of the two”时,比较级前必须带 “the”。e.g. She is the fatter one of the two. 她是两个中较胖的那个。2)同等事物才能比较e.g. My hair is longer than yours (your hair).Tinas hair is curlier than Lindas.名词性物主代词相当于形容词性物主代词加名词:mine=my+n.yours=your+n.his=his+nhers=her+n.its=its+n.theirs=their+n. ii. as . as . 句型同级之间进行比较,用 “A . as + adj./adv.原形 + as + B”,表示A、B两者之间性质相同。 e.g. I am as tall as you. My uncle is as tall as your father. Tom is as honest as John. My dog is as old as that one.其否定形式 “A . not as + adj./adv. + as + B 或 A . not so + adj./adv. + as + B”,意为 “A不如B”。 e.g. I am not as tall as you. My uncle is not so tall as your father. Tom is not as honest as John. This jacket is not as cheap as that one.the same as . 与相同My friend is the same as me. We are both quiet. A good friend likes to do the same things as me.II 德育指导How to make more friends Some friends have the same views and interests as you do, others are different from you. Remember: A friend in need is a friend indeed. Some young people are good at making friends and other young people have to work harder at making friends. Almost everyone thinks the more friend you have, the happier you will be. Do you want to make more friends? If you do, the following tips may open up your eyes.Try to meet other students.
