medicine around 2,700 bc in the western mountains of china. tea was likely seen as healthy in part because it was made with boiled water, which is safer to drink in an area of polluted water. tea drinking, and commercial growing, spread during the tang dynasty, 618-907, especially after lu yu, a buddhist monk(佛教僧侣), wrote a book on the value of tea, cha ching. tea gradually became one of the seven basic necessities of chinese life (the others are fuel, rice, oil, salt, soy sauce, and vinegar.) a japanese buddhist priest, saicho, is believed to have introduced tea to japan, when he returned from a visit to china in 805. in japan tea drinking was considered medicinal, and became closely associated with zen buddhism(禅宗). tea drinking also spread to korea and southeast asia, and was taken over the silk road to central asia, russia, and the middle east. dutch explorers became familiar with tea in the 1590s and were soon importing tea to europe. in 1657 the british east india company held the first public sale of tea in england, while that same year thomas garraway began offering tea at his london coffee house. in 1662 tea received a big boost(推进) in england when the portuguese catherine of braganza, married king charles ii and introduced tea drinking to the british court.gradually, the british fell in love with tea, and with the sugar that went in it. in 1665, less than 88 tons of sugar was imported to great britain. by 1700, it had increased to 10,000 tons of sugar. in 1768 the east india company imported 10 million pounds of tea to britain.4. which of the in most hollywood movies, the native american navajos still fight on horses in the american southwest.but during world war ii, a group of navajos made their language into a weapon to protect the united states. they were the navajo code talkers, and theirs is one of the few unbroken codes( 电码)in military history. navajo was the perfect choice for a secret language. it is very complex. one vowel (元音) can have up to ten different pronunciations, changing the meaning of any word. in the 1940s, navajo was an unwritten language. no one outside of the reservation(居留地) could speak it or understand it. the navajo code team had to invent new words to describe military equipment. for example, they named ships after fish: lotso-whale (battleship), calo-shark (destroyer), and beshloiron-fish( submarine). when a code talker received a message via radio, he heard a series of unrelated navajo words. he would then translate the words into english and use the first letter of each english word to spell the message. the navajo words tsah (needle), wol-la-chee(ant), ah-kh-di-glini(victor), and tsah-ah-dzoh(yucca) spelled navy. the code talkers kept the code a secret. they memorized everything. there were no code books. as a result,no ordinary navajo soldier, if captured by the enemy, could understand the code. more than 3, 600 navajos served in world war ii, but only 420 were code talkers with the us marines. they coded and decoded battlefield messages better and faster than any machine. they could encode, transmit, and decode a three-line english message in 20seconds. machines of the time required 30 minutes to perform the same job. even after the war the code remained top secret. when they were asked about their role, code talkers just said,i was a radioman. war movies and histories came out without mentioning them. the code was never used again and was finally declassified(撤销保密)in1968. only then did the secret come out.7.what does the often talk about the importance of “networking” or having connections with many people that allow you to get some kinds of benefits.11 the relationships we build with everyday people are just as if less important, so we think about them less. this article focuses on how to build strong relationships in everyday life.accept change. its common to lose contact with people as we get older and our interests change, but some relationships are strong enough to survive the test of time.12 moving the base of the relationship to something a bit deeper, such as an admiration or an appreciation for the particular person, allows one to accept small differences in interests, likes, and dislikes.13 lolly daskal once said, “relationships function like a mirror, and eventually that change will reflect back onto how you are treated.”the meaning of this quote is pretty clear. there is no quicker way to weaken a relationship than by not being able to respect those around you. on the contrary, respect can be gained by being considerate towards others. this does not mean you have to agree with everything other people say, but being able to calmly set aside small differences helps overcome troublesome differences.talk face to face. according to forbes magazine, “being able to see a persons body language, facial expressions, and gestures makes a world of difference in building a relationship.” this is because talking face to face communicates more information to us. by using body language, the speakers true message can be sent more efficiently.14 try to be as good of a listener as you are a speaker. some people consider it more important to be heard and contribute to a conversation. others believe it is more important to listen than to speak. simply put, they are both wrong.15 conversations are meant to be a two-sided discussion.a. but how to establish strong business relationships?b. treat people with respect.c. speaking and listening are equally important in any conversation.d. but what about networking outside the business world?e. this is because these relationships are not based primarily on common interests.f. in this way, communication is
