However, working successfully as a team is not as easy as it may seem. Effective teamwork certainly does not just happen automatically; it takes a great deal of hard work and compromise. There are a number of factors that must be in place to make a good team. Effective leadership is one of the most important components of good teamwork. The teams leader should possess the skills to create and preserve a positive working environment and motivate and inspire the team members to take a positive approach to work and be highly committed. An effective team leader will promote a high level of spirit and make them feel supported and valued. Communication is a vital factor of all interpersonal relationship and especially that of a team. Team members must be able to articulate their feelings, express plans and goals, share ideas and see each others opinions. Conflicts will arise no matter how well a team functions together. The best way to deal with conflicts is to have some organized methods of handling conflicts. Team members should be able to voice their concerns without fear of offending others. Instead of avoiding conflict issues, a hands-on approach that settles them quickly is much better. It is often advised that the team leader sit with the conflicting parties and help work out their differences without taking sides and trying to remain objective if possible. The team leader must set a good example to create good teamwork. In order to keep team members positive and committed and motivated, the team leader herself/himself needs to show these qualities. The team turns to the leader for support and guidance. So any negative words or behaviors on the leaders part can be disastrous. Regardless of what type of work you are in, knowing how to effectively work on and with a team is going to be extremely important to your success and that of your team.24. Effective leadership is important partly because _.A. it helps a leader to develop lots of skillsB. it makes a leader feel supported and valuedC. it creates a positive working environmentD. it depends on interpersonal relationship of a team25. When conflicts arise among team members, the team leader should _.A. worry about the team membersB. ignore the team members voicesC. try to avoid conflict issuesD. work out their differences26. To become a good team leader, you have to _.A. be positive and committedB. set up a good teamC. look for support from the teamD. avoid natural disasters27. Which is the best title for the passage?A. Football And TeamworkB. What Makes Effective TeamworkC. Handle Conflict In A TeamD. Communication And TeamworkCAmerican researchers found females are the more talkative sex because of a special language protein(蛋白质) in the brain. The study, conducted by neuroscientists (神经学家) and psychologist from the University of Maryland, concluded that women talked more because they had more of the Foxp2 protein. The research, published in the Journal of Neuroscience, found that higher levels were found among humans that were women but in rats that were males. Their findings came after it was previously claimed that ladies speak about 20,000 words a day over 13,000 more than men. This study is one of the first to report a sex difference in the expression of a language-associated protein in humans or animals, said Prof Margaret McCarthy, who led the study. In their study, the researchers attempted to determine what might make male rats more vocal than their female friends. They separated four-day-old rats from their mothers and then counted the number of times they cried out in the ultrasonic range, the frequencies higher than humans can hear, over five minutes. While both sexes called out hundreds of cries, the males called out twice as often, they found. But when the pups were returned to their mothers cage, she fussed over her sons first. Tests conducted on the parts of the brain known to be associated with vocal calls showed the male pups have up to twice as much Foxp2 protein as the females. The researchers then increased the production in the brains of female pups and reduced it in males. This led to the female rats crying out more often and their mothers showing more interest to them. In contrast, males became less talkative. The researchers then tested samples from ten children, aged between three and five, which showed that females had up to 30 percent more of the Foxp2 protein than males, in a brain area key to language in humans. Based on our observations, we assume higher levels of Foxp2 in girls and higher levels of Foxp2 in male rats is an indication that Foxp2 protein levels are associated with the more communicative sex, said Prof McCarthy. Our results imply Foxp2 as a component of the neurobiological basis of sex differences in vocal communication in mammals.28.From the second paragraph, we can learn that _.A. women always speak more words than menB. men and male rats have low levels of language proteinC. women and male rats have similar levels of Foxp2D. McCarthy isnt the first to find females more talkative29. The underlined phrase fussed over in the third paragraph probably means _.A. paid attention toB. related toC. put pressure onD. counted on30. The researchers carried out the experiments on rats in order to _.A. test which part of the brain is key to language in rats and humansB. prove the levels of Foxp2 protein in humans and rats are differentC. determine the reason why female rats are more talkative than male ratsD. discover the association between Foxp2 protein and vocal communication31. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?A. Tests on humans and ratsB. Why women are the talkative sexC. Sex differences in Foxp2 proteinD. Foxp2 protein determines oral abilityDYou cant always predict a heavy rain or remember your umbrella. But designer Mikhail Belyaev doesnt think that forgetting to check the weather forecast before heading out should result in you getting wet. Thats why he created Lampbrella, a lamp post with its own rainsensing umbrella. The designer says he came up with the idea after watching people get wet on streets in Russia. “Once, I was driving on a central Saint Petersburg street and saw the street lamps lighting up people trying to hide from the rain. I thought it would be appropriate to have a canopy built into a street lamp,” he said. The Lampbrella is a standardlooking street lamp fitted with an umbrella canopy. It has a builtin electric motor which can open or close the umbrella on demand. Sensors then ensure that the umbrella offers pedestrians shelter whenever it starts raining. In addition to the rain sensor, theres also a 360 motion sensor on the fiberglass street lamp which detects whether anyone is using the Lampbrella. After three minutes of not being used the canopy is closed. According to the designer, the Lampbrella would move at a relatively low speed, so as not to cause harm to the pedestrians. Besides, it would be grounded to protect from possible lightning strike. Each Lampbrella would offer enough shelter for several people. Being installed at 2 meters off the ground, it would only be a danger for the tallest of pedestrians. While there are no plans to take the Lampbrella into production, Belyaev says he recently introduced his creation to one Moscow Department, and insists his creation could be installed on any street where a lot of people walk but there are no canopies to provide shelter. 32. For what purpose did Belyaev create the Lampbrella? A. To predict a heavy rain.B. To check the weather forecast. C. To protect people from the rain.D. To remind people to take an umbrella. 33. What do we know from Belyaevs words in Paragraph 2? A. His creation was inspired by an experience. B. It rains a lot in the city of Saint Petersburg. C. Street lamps are protected by canopies. D. He enjoyed taking walks in the rain. 34. Which of the following shows how the Lampbrella works? A. motor canopy sensorsB. sensors motor canopyC. motor sensors canopyD. canopy motor sensors 35.
