The new words and the language points.Teaching methods:fast reading careful readingTeaching procedure:Step 1 Question-guided learning T: Do you know the storm?Whats the storm like?When the storm is coming, what can you see?Show Pictures S: (strong winds, black clouds, no light, fallen trees and broken windows.)T: The storm sometimes brings disasters , bad things , to us. But it also brought people closer together. As a report says.A heavy rainstorm was in the area - Alabama.Ben went through a rainstorm. Lets go with him and feel the storm. And find the reason.Now, lets come into our lesson, The Storm Brought People Closer Together. ( write the title on the blackboard )Step 2 Self learningFast reading T: This is the article. We can see one , two , three, four paragraphs here. What are they talking about?Match the paragraphs with the meanings. Which paragraph or paragraphs are talking about things happened before the rainstorm? Which is during the rainstorm, while the rainstorm is happening, which is after the rainstorm? Check answers in groups. One student stands up to match.Step 3 Group workCareful readingParagraph1T: Before the rainstorm, what was the weather like?S: Ben could hear strong winds outside. Black clouds were making the sky very dark. With no light outside, it felt like midnight. (because there is so dark outside that we are seem to be in midnight even now is the daytime. )Paragraph 2T: What were people doing before the rainstorm? Was everyone busy? What about Bens dad?S: He was putting pieces of wood over the windows.T:What was Bens mom doing while his dad was putting pieces of wood over the window? S: She was making sure the flashlights and radio were working She was putting some candles and matches on the table.(Bens dad was covering the windows while , at the same time, Bens mom knows everything is in order. ) Step 4 Guided learningParagraph 3T: Before the rainstorm, Bens family are busy to prepare for the bad weather. The rainstorm is coming. What were Bens family doing during the rainstorm? Answer questions. It was hard to have fun with a serious storm happening outside.(It was difficult to be happy to enjoy a card game when the storm was outside.) Paragraph 4T: During the rainstorm, Bens family were all at home.What happened after the storm?How was the neighborhood? (you can find the neighborhood , this word and find the information quickly.)S: It was in a mess. Fallen trees, broken windows and rubbish were everywhere.
