文档简介

To dance among the wordsBy KiokiBefore, when If we were asked to compose a piece, usually we would habitually raise a question: “How many words must it contain?” At that time, to compose a piece is to pile the words together and never think about what messages we want to convey by our writing. However, after I come to Mr. Yangs writing class, everything begins to change. To make my recollection/reflection more vivid, I purposefully use the present tense in my description below.I add this line so that we need not to correct your tense at all. Usually, we use the simple past tense to describe events that have already happened. So you should have used the past tense to summarize your unique experiences in our writing class instead.Early in the first class, the teacher tells us that in the beginning it will be suffering to attend his class, “Someone says I am jumping among my thoughts!” So “catch me if you can!” And his tag is Whenever he is ready for making a conclusion, he will have a tag (口头禅) like this : “Attention! Now I will close the net opened by myself draw in my net!” Usually before we compose a piece, he gives us a lot of deep theories which sometimes we can not understand well. But when we are writing, he gives us sufficient freedom. “You are what you write.” So he gives us the language right of discourse(话语权). We are not confined to the words or thoughts when composing a piece. Mr. Yang tells us that he likes simple but brief style best, and we finally find that it is most important to dig a deep into thought rather than to pile the pompous words in our papers. In this way we think and write, to and fill ourselves with techniques and experiences. Just like as we eat and eat have some “spiritual dishes” week by week, then so one day we find that we are full and prepared for a bigger game. Then at the beginning of a new term, Mr. Yang tells us that we are going to try on academic writingwe will do a big project! An interesting but challenging game that we never dream of doing in the class before!Of course, at first, we consider it suffering and boring to finish such a job. What is more, we are not confident about ourselves. However, after a term, we surprisingly find that we can do it well. When showing our fruit to the whole class, we smile from our deep heart. This experience is undoubtedly the first jump in our writing. After accomplishing this, we are no longer afraid of any style of writing. So after this training, some of my classmates even doubt what bigger games we can play in the future begin to expect some bigger games!Of course we have the chance finally! When Mr. Yang stands on the platform again, smiling, with the framework of an expected book in his mind, he asks invites us to publish a book with him. More specifically, it is an academic book on writing! It is true that at first we are like the flies without their heads, but soon we indulge ourselves in it this publishing job and begin to enjoy the happiness during of the process. And undoubtedly, it this is the second jump we have in our writing class! Now, after the second jump, we begin learn how to dance among the words with the wingsImagery is stronger when this word is plural. of thought. Before we attended this new writing class, writing was like squeezing the toothpaste, but now when we are writing, our thought is like the spring full of water running out. This is really a nice metaphor to describe your progress in this new writing class. We are encouraged by these words as well.Professors comments and suggestions:1. I like your title very much. It sounds poetic, metaphorical, and meaningful(有诗意、有寓意、有意义).2. Generally speaking, this is a good paper and some positive changes have taken place, compared to the pieces you wrote before.3. I have made some surface corrections here and there and hope you will go over them again.4. When we describe past events, grammatically speaking, there are two tenses we can use: You can use the simple past tense, or alternatively, you can use the historical present tense(历史现在时). The former tense is the most widely used tense for something happening in the past, while the latter tense is occasionally used for achievin
