To be able to read and understand the meaning of the passages with proper reading strategies: scanning, skimming and guessing the meaning of unfamiliar words.2. To be able to infer, analyze and compare information.3. To be able to understand and know what we can do online, what we can do with mobile phones, how to choose proper mobile phones according to our need.II. Important PointsHelp the students to practice the important reading strategies: scanning, skimming and guessing the meaning of words.III. Difficult PointsHelp the students to know and practice the skills of inferring, analyzing and comparing information.IV. Teaching Methods1. Look at some pictures to learn some new words.2. Individual, pair or group work to make every student work in class.V. Teaching ProceduresStep I Lead-in (7 mins)1. Ask the students to look at the photo about surfing online and discuss the following questions: What are they doing? What do you usually do online?2. Introduce the learning content to the students: They are going to read a short passage about online activities.Step II Pre-reading(10 mins)1. Present some new words and phrases on the slide. Tell the students their meanings and pronunciations.2. Present the following question and the picture on Page 93, and then ask them to predict: What do they do online?Step III While-reading (28 mins)I.Reading practice one. 1. Ask the students to skim the passage on Page 93, and try to answer the above question. Give the students some advice about reading skills.2. Play the tape. Ask the students to read after the tape and underline the important phrases. 3. Ask the students to read the passage and list online activities in Activity , and then ask them to check in groups and express their opinions. Tell the students they may start like this: I often Online.II. Reading practice two1. Ask the students to read the passage on Page 94, and then answer the following two questions:Can mobile phones make our life easier?What can you do with mobile phones?2. Play the tape. Ask the students to read after it and underline the important words and phrases. Explain their meanings to the students.3. Ask the students to read the passage again and work in pairs to discuss what they usually do with mobile phones in Activity on Page 94.III. Reading practice three1. Ask the students to read the three introductions to mobile phones on Page 95, and then answer the questions: Whats the biggest feature of Mobile A? Whats the biggest feature of Mobile B?Whats the biggest feature of Mobile C?2. Play the tape. Ask the students to read after it.3. Ask the students to read the three short passages and choose proper mobile phones for Adam, Helen and Bob in Activity . 4. Ask the students to work in pairs. Suppose every one of them needs a new mobile phone, ask them to discuss and introduce a mobile phone for their partner according to the partners taste.Step IV.
